FBI arrests 20-year-old Ohio man who wanted to 'wage jihad' on US, plotted attack on Capitol

CINCINNATI –  A 20-year-old Ohio man's Twitter posts sympathizing with Islamic terrorists has led to his arrest on charges that he plotted to blow up the U.S. Capitol and kill government officials.

Federal authorities on Wednesday identified the man as Christopher Lee Cornell, also known as Raheel Mahrus Ubaydah.

Cornell, who lives in the Cincinnati area, allegedly told an FBI informant they should "wage jihad," and showed his plans for bombing the Capitol and shooting people, according to a criminal complaint filed in federal court.

The FBI said Cornell expressed his desire to support the Islamic State.

Authorities say Cornell was arrested Wednesday after buying two semi-automatic rifles and about 600 rounds of ammunition. But an FBI agent says the public was never in danger.

Jihad terror groupies from UK lining up to marry jihad fighters in Syria

This is no surprise. These women are taught that jihad fighters deserve respect and gratitude, as they are engaged in a noble and praiseworthy endeavor. They see the British government bending over backwards to appease Islamic supremacist groups, which only reinforces impressions of British society’s weakness and the strength of Islam. They certainly don’t see any non-Muslims in Britain embodying any courage or fortitude, or any commitment to any great cause. Why shouldn’t they find these men admirable?

“The British female terror groupies queuing up to marry jihad fighters in Syria,” by Ted Thornhill and Rebecca Camber for the Daily Mail, February 17:

An increasing number of British women are travelling to war-torn Syria to marry jihadists from the UK, with some seeing them as leading a ‘perfect life’.

Many are thought to be marrying jihadists on the internet, as strict Islamic code forbids unmarried women to travel alone, according to researchers at the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation at King’s College, London.

Exact numbers are difficult to pinpoint, but the research centre believes that dozens of British women have married English-speaking jihadists – or are trying to – according to chatter that it monitors on forums.

It knows of two women from Portsmouth, one from London and one from Surrey who definitely have married English-speaking men fighting for opposition forces.

It said that one is a convert and that two were married prior to departure, with the other two marrying on arrival in Syria.

Women from other countries have also gone to Syria to be with jihadists – two from France, who both married jihadists before they left for the war, one from Sweden, one from Serbia, one from the Philippines and one from Germany.

What gives away the women’s intentions are the questions they pose to the fighters….

One woman asked British jihadist Abu Abdullah al-Britani: ‘How can a sister ask you for marriage? What are your standards? Are you interested after asking Allah, of course.’

Charles Lister, from the Brookings Institute, said that many women view jihadists in Syria as living the ‘perfect life’.

The revelation follows the court appearance in January of Nawal Msaad, 26, a student accused of trying to smuggle £16,000 in her underwear to terrorists fighting in Syria.

Nawal Msaad, 26, and her alleged co-conspirator Amal Elwahabi, 27, are the first British women charged with terror offences over the conflict.

Msaad, an undergraduate from Holloway, North London, was arrested at Heathrow as she prepared to board a flight to Istanbul with 20,000 euros wrapped in cling film in her knickers.

Hours later, police swooped on Elwahabi, who stands jointly accused of being part of an arrangement in which money was made available for the purposes of terrorism.

The court heard that the two Britons attempted to send the bundle of rolled-up notes to a suspected British jihadist fighting in Syria’s civil war.

The head of the Counter Terrorism Command, Richard Walton, said several teenagers had been enticed to join jihadists fighting in the war-torn country, as he warned that the conflict posed a growing threat to national security.

Earlier in January, two 17-year-old girls from London and West Yorkshire were held at Heathrow as they were boarding a flight to Istanbul. Officers spent five days quizzing the girls before releasing them without charge. But Mr Walton said that other ‘boys and girls’ were being lured to join rebel forces fighting in Syria.

He said the numbers of Syria-related terror arrests had soared, with 14 in the first three weeks of this year – more than half the total for the whole of 2013.

He said: ‘We’ve had a number of teenagers both from London and nationally who’ve been attempting to go to Syria. That’s boys and girls, unfortunately.

‘It’s not just the odd one. It’s shocking that they are such young people.’

Texas: Nazi jazz musician plans Jazz Jihad

“Anti-Semitic jazz musicians stir uproar,” by Brian Chasnoff for the San Antonio Express-News, February 17 (thanks to Bill):

SAN ANTONIO,

Kory Cook, music director at KRTU-FM Jazz for San Antonio, said the radio station at Trinity University just “dodged a bullet,” but it’s probably more accurate to say it dodged a “quenelle.”

The hand gesture, widely seen as a reverse Nazi salute, is familiar to many Spurs fans as something guard Tony Parker flashed in a photo three years ago alongside the French anti-Semite Dieudonné M’Bala M’Bala.

(Parker recently apologized for the “misunderstanding” after the photograph surfaced.)

For an unapologetic posting of Dieudonné with the caption: “Révolution de la quenelle!,” see the Facebook profile picture of Trevor LaBonte, an Austin guitarist who has played in San Antonio with the King William Jazz Collective. (The collective’s founder, Bill King, fired LaBonte on Monday.)

Recently, LaBonte asked Cook at KRTU to help him find a venue for a show dubbed “Jazz Jihad!”

It features Gilad Atzmon, an Israeli-born British jazz saxophonist who calls himself a “proud self-hating Jew”; LaBonte’s jazz trio; and Mark Dankof, a local “anti-Semitic conspiracy theorist,” according to the Anti-Defamation League.

Cook connected LaBonte with Ray Palmer, owner of High Wire Arts on West Josephine. Palmer agreed to host the show, and LaBonte advertised it on Facebook as “sponsored by KRTU.”

Local musicians caught wind; an uproar ensued. JJ Lopez, general manager at KRTU, sent an email to Trinity staff on Saturday clarifying the situation.

“We are not supporting this event,” Lopez wrote. “KRTU’s inclusion on the flyer was not approved by station management. I contacted the lead musician and had our name removed, effective immediately.”…

“Hate” is one way to describe the views of LaBonte, which include a defense of Adolf Hitler. In December, on Facebook, LaBonte wrote, “If Hitler was an evil dictator, then why did he have broad public support?”

This is extreme stuff, and LaBonte doubled down on Monday.

“Jews were heavily involved in communism and were targeting Europe to communize it,” he told me. “Hitler was not trying to take over the world. Hitler was trying to protect it from communism, which was trying to take over the world…. It was planned by Jews.”

LaBonte said speakers at the show “were going to talk about some of these things.”

I even received a surprise call from Atzmon, who defended LaBonte’s views (“Everything he told you so far is partially correct as we know”) and railed against the cancellation of his show — in a notably anti-Semitic manner.

“I’m offended,” Atzmon said. “I write about Jewish political power, and here it comes.”

I mentioned that his views offend some people.

“People can be offended by a lot of things,” he said. “But as far as I’m aware, in this country, we have the First Amendment, which allows me theoretically to express my thoughts.”

Another freedom implicit in the First Amendment is that of association, and the saga of “Jazz Jihad!” shows that this freedom entails a responsibility, sometimes, to disassociate.

Faced with the prospect of his band appearing in this column, King fired LaBonte: “I don’t want to be associated with his beliefs.”

Embarrassed by the photograph with Dieudonné, Parker publicly apologized.

And both Cook and Palmer backed out of “Jazz Jihad!,” which LaBonte is planning at another, undisclosed local venue. (A second show is scheduled at Ovations Night Club in Houston.)…

Connecticut: Muslim to be sentenced for sending recruits to jihad terror training camps

Despite the fact that Babar Ahmad has been found guilty, he has his supporters people who believe that any Muslim accused of anything by the federal government must be the victim of “racism,” “bigotry” and “Islamophobia.” Such charges form a swift one-two punch with violent jihad attacks, making it almost impossible to fight back by stigmatizing those who do so.

“Feds want man convicted in failed 2001 shoe bomb plot to testify in Conn. terrorism case,” from the Associated Press, February 17:

NEW HAVEN, Conn.

Federal prosecutors want a man convicted in a failed 2001 shoe bomb plot to bring down an airplane to testify at the sentencing of two British citizens who pleaded guilty in Connecticut to supporting terrorists through websites.

The testimony reflects an effort by prosecutors to show that Babar Ahmad, one of the two men facing sentencing in Connecticut, had an active role in sending recruits to terrorism training camps beyond appealing for support on the websites.

Prosecutors say the witness is expected to testify that Ahmad sent him to Afghanistan to train for violent jihad and that he ultimately moved on from Ahmad and came under the mentorship and training of al-Qaida members who prepared him for the shoe bomb plot. The man also is expected to testify that he saw nearly two dozen others that Ahmad sent from the United Kingdom to train in Afghanistan, and he would describe camping trips and training exercises that Ahmad organized in England to groom recruits for violent jihad abroad, prosecutors said.

“Ahmad’s conduct went beyond cyberspace and included real world effects and consequences flowing from the criminal activity, regardless of the media used to plan, coordinate and execute some of the conduct,” prosecutors wrote in court papers last week, citing his efforts to send people to Afghanistan to train for violent jihad and emails discussing night vision goggles and safe routes into Afghanistan.

Ahmad’s attorneys say they’ll respond in court objecting to the request to have the man testify by a videotaped deposition.

Prosecutors didn’t name the man they want to testify, but his description matches that of Saajid Badat, a British citizen whose videotaped testimony was shown at the 2012 New York City trial of a man convicted in a foiled plot to attack the New York City subway system in 2009. A spokesman for the prosecutors declined to comment to The Associated Press on the witness’s identity.

Badat was convicted in London in a plot to down an American Airlines flight from Paris to Miami with explosives hidden in his shoes. He said at that trial that he refused a request to testify in person in the U.S. because he remains under indictment in Boston on charges he conspired with failed shoe bomber Richard Reid and has been told he’d be arrested if he set foot in the United States.

Prosecutors said the man they want to testify at Ahmad’s sentencing had testified by videotape at the trial for the foiled subway plot, was indicted in Massachusetts on charges related to the shoe bomb plot, refuses to testify in the U.S. and expects to be arrested upon arrival in the country.

Reid was caught aboard a plane with explosives; Badat backed out.

Badat was sentenced to 13 years in prison. But British authorities later said that in 2009, a judge secretly reduced his sentence to 11 years to reward him for his cooperation in terror investigations.

Ahmad and Syed Talha Ahsan pleaded guilty in December to terrorism charges. Ahmad admitted he sought recruits, cash and equipment such as gas masks for the Taliban regime in Afghanistan through the websites.

The two men, who were living in Britain at the time, faced charges in Connecticut because authorities said they used an Internet service provider in the state to run one of the websites.

A prosecutor said Ahsan traveled to Afghanistan with Ahmad’s assistance to fight and attend a training camp run by al-Qaida, but Ahsan didn’t admit that.

The cooperating witness, believed to be Badat, is expected to testify that Ahmad originally recruited and radicalized him before sending him to the camp in Afghanistan. He said he took an explosives training class with Ahsan and stayed at a safe house in Kandahar in January 2001 during which Osama bin Laden visited the location multiple times, prosecutors said….

Pakistan: Suspects in murder of Christian politician who opposed blasphemy law could go free due to jihad threats

How can the murderers of Shahbaz Bhatti be punished when so many people in Pakistan sympathize more with them than with their victim, and believe that the Christians who have been hounded and persecuted under that country’s blasphemy laws had it coming and deserved what they got?

More on this story. “Islamic Extremist Threats in Pakistan Could Quash Prosecution of Bhatti Murder,” by Jeremy Reynalds for ASSIST News Service, February 17 (thanks to all who sent this in):

LAHORE, PAKISTAN (ANS)

Suspects in the murder of Pakistan’s first Christian cabinet minister, Shahbaz Bhatti, could walk free due to intimidation tactics by Islamic extremists, Christians fear.

According to a story by Morning Star News, the suspects have confessed, according to Dr. Paul Bhatti, brother of former Minister for Minority Affairs Shahbaz Bhatti, who was gunned down on March 2 2011.

However, prosecution will be difficult after death threats from Islamic extremists forced Paul Bhatti to flee the country, and banned extremist groups are demanding the release of the suspects for progress in talks with government officials.

Paul Bhatti took responsibility for becoming the complainant in the case when the government’s prosecution slowed to a standstill, but he has left the country due to threats on his life by the Pakistani Taliban and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) terrorist organizations.

“I’ve been constantly threatened to withdraw the case, and just recently I received a letter from the Pakistani Taliban and LeJ warning me to stop pursuing the case, or else they will kill me,” Bhatti told Morning Star News by phone from Italy.

He added, “I informed the government and other concerned quarters about these threats, but I’m yet to hear something from their side.”

Bhatti has not given up on prosecuting, but Sub-Inspector Riaz Gondal, the investigating officer in the case, admitted that the suspects and their handlers did pose a serious threat to the murder victim’s brother.

“Indeed it is a serious matter perhaps this is why they hadn’t been pursuing the case,” he said, noting that Bhatti’s absence from hearings and reduced contact with investigators would impair prosecution. “We did our job and arrested the accused. It’s now up to the court to punish them. But if the complainant does not show up at the hearings, there’s little hope for the killers to be convicted.”

Bhatti said that the public prosecutor assigned by the Punjab government had refused to pursue the murder case in the Rawalpindi anti-terrorism court.

“I then hired a lawyer on my own, although it was the responsibility of the Punjab government,” he said.

Asked why the government was not the complainant in the murder case of its cabinet minister instead of the victim’s brother, especially with the case carrying such high risks, Gondal said, “I was assigned the investigation some months ago, so I can’t really say why Shahbaz Bhatti’s brother became the complainant in the case. As for the government’s role in this matter, the police are doing their job, and arrests of the accused are a testimony of their efforts.”

Morning Star News said Gondal denied receiving any information regarding the threats to Paul Bhatti.

Prisoner Release

Complicating the case is the possibility that the suspects could be released as part of an agreement for government talks with banned Muslim extremists groups.

The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan has reportedly demanded the release of Bhatti’s alleged assassins along with other imprisoned terrorists as a pre-condition for progress in “peace talks” with the government.

Bhatti said that it was the government’s responsibility to keep the murderers of a sitting cabinet minister from walking free.

“The men themselves confessed to killing my brother,” Morning Star News reported he said. “I’m certain that they are the real culprits, because the Taliban are demanding their release. It would be very unjust if the government submits to the Taliban demand.”

Almost three years have passed since Bhatti’s murder, but the trial has barely begun. Islamabad police believe the latest threatening letters were sent to pressure Bhatti following the arrest of four Islamic extremists accused of killing his brother Omar Abdullah, Hammad Adil, Abdul Sattar and one identified only as Tanveer, who all belong to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.

Adil had already been detained for planning attacks on key installations in Islamabad; a vehicle laden with 120 kilograms of explosives was recovered from his residence.

Adil and Abdullah reportedly confessed to killing Bhatti and named the two accomplices, who were detained shortly afterwards.

In June 2011, then-Islamabad Senior Superintendent of Police Tahir Alam submitted a joint investigation report to the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Minorities saying that police had decided to shelve the Bhatti murder case as investigators could not find any leads.

The case was reopened on Sept. 30, 2013, at the request of Capital Police, and a joint investigation team was formed following the arrest of Adil.

Gondal, the investigator and officer in charge of the Sabzi Mandi Police Station, said police have filed charge sheets against Adil and Abdullah and sent them to jail on judicial remand. The other two suspects will also be formally charged soon, he added.

Gondal said he could not comment on chances of the suspects walking free as a result of a deal between the government and Taliban.
“I can’t comment on this issue, because it’s for the government to decide,” he said. “But I hope they know how dangerous these men are.”

The right-wing government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is holding “peace talks” with the Taliban. Among the preconditions set by the terrorists for a “meaningful outcome of the talks” is the release of Pakistani and foreign terrorists languishing in Pakistani jails.

Most political analysts believe that the government might release some Taliban prisoners as a confidence-building measure with the Taliban.

Prominent human rights activist Asma Jahangir said that if the government caved in to the Taliban demand and released all terrorists affiliated with the group, then it might as well set free all other prisoners languishing in jails across the country.

“The Taliban have killed thousands of innocent people and members of security forces in the last seven years,” Jahangir said. “How can the government even think of negotiating with such barbarians? The government must not accept the Taliban’s demand for release of hard-core militants, as the peace talks may turn out to be a Taliban ploy to get their friends released from prisons.”

An Interior Ministry senior official refused to comment on the eventuality of any person involved in Bhatti’s murder being released as part of a deal between the government and terrorists.

“The government has not taken any such decision as yet, but the final authority rests with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif,” he said.

Speaking on condition of anonymity because he wasn’t authorized to talk to media, he told Morning Star News that officials had received Paul Bhatti’s application for provision of security due to Taliban threats to him.

“We are looking into the matter,” the official said. “Almost every other important person is facing high risk, but it is not possible for us to provide extensive security cover to everyone given our limited resources.”

Lack of progress in the case at one time led Bhatti to lose hope that the killers would ever be brought to justice, said the former minister for national harmony and minority affairs, appointed to replace his brother.

“However, when the police announced that they had the assassins in its custody and shared the investigation details with us, I thought that perhaps my brother’s killers would be punished for their crime,” he said. “But there has been little progress over all.”

Morning Star News said he doesn’t plan to remain in Italy.

“I know we are potential targets, but we will not give up,” he said. “Those threatening us are the same people who are responsible for the murders of my brother and countless other innocent people in Pakistan.”

He said that after the murder of his brother, he left his medical practice in Italy and returned to Pakistan to continue Shahbaz’s mission. He was selected as chairman of his brother’s party, the All Pakistan Minorities Alliance, and was accommodated in the federal cabinet in place of the late minister.

Since the Pakistan Peoples Party lost power last year, however, risks have increased, Bhatti said.

Two months before Shahbaz Bhatti was killed, Punjab Gov. Salmaan Taseer, a Muslim, was assassinated on Jan. 4 2011.

Morning Star News said Al Qaeda-linked militants targeted both men for their criticism of the country’s blasphemy laws and for their defense of Asia Bibi, a Christian mother sentenced to death for allegedly blaspheming Islam’s prophet. She has been waiting for three years to have her appeal heard.

Fort Hood tears down site of 2009 jihad massacre

“For the building in which this horrific event took place just to be wiped off the map before we have a say in what’s done with it seems like another slap in the face.” Platoni is right: this is just another manifestation of the all-pervasive denial of the reality of jihad. They are pretending this jihad attack did not happen. Instead of acknowledging the murders realistically and redoubling our determination to resist jihad, U.S. officials have consistently dissembled and pretended that Nidal Hasan had motives other than the ones he repeatedly stated. And one thing is certain: whatever memorial is constructed there will say nothing whatsoever about why Hasan murdered these people as if a Pearl Harbor memorial said, “Random airplane pilots spontaneously and for no discernible reason decided to attack Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.”

“Fort Hood tears down site of 2009 massacre,” by Nomaan Merchant for the Associated Press, February 18 (thanks to Darcy):

DALLAS (AP)

A Texas Army post has razed the building where a former psychiatrist carried out one of the worst mass shootings in U.S. history, with plans to put up trees and a memorial in its place.

Fort Hood officials said Tuesday that they have torn down Building 42003, the site of a 2009 massacre that left 13 people dead and more than 30 wounded.

The building was part of a processing center complex for soldiers deploying and returning from combat. On Nov. 5, 2009, then-Maj. Nidal Hasan carried two weapons inside, shouted “Allahu Akbar!” “God is great” in Arabic and opened fire on soldiers waiting for vaccines and paperwork.

As soldiers and civilians tried to take cover, Hasan walked through the building, targeting anyone in a green Army uniform. He left pools of blood and spent ammunition in his wake. He was eventually confronted outside the building by Fort Hood police officers, who shot him and paralyzed him from the waist down.

Hasan was convicted in August of charges related to the massacre and sentenced to death. He is on death row at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., while his case goes through a review at Fort Hood before it enters a series of mandatory appeals.

The building was sealed off for nearly four years until post officials announced in November that they would demolish it.

Fort Hood officials, who declined to be interviewed, plan to place trees, a gazebo and a memorial plaque at the site.

Not all victims and their relatives agree with them. Kathy Platoni, an Army reservist who saw her friend, Capt. John Gaffaney, bleed to death, was one of the people who called on Fort Hood to keep the building standing as a reminder of what happened.

Platoni found out about the demolition Tuesday in a mass email from the post.

While post spokesman Chris Haug said he believed family members and victims were consulted about what to do with the site, Platoni said Army officials had not asked her opinion.

Platoni mentioned other points of contention between the Army and the Fort Hood victims, including a prolonged fight for increased benefits and recognition due to what many victims say is a terrorist attack, despite the Army’s insistence that the shooting was an act of workplace violence.

“For the building in which this horrific event took place just to be wiped off the map before we have a say in what’s done with it seems like another slap in the face,” Platoni told The Associated Press Tuesday afternoon.

She described her shock at watching video of the building being torn down. Asked if the video provided any closure, she said no.

“I don’t think there will be closure until Nidal Hasan has left the face of this earth, and even more importantly than that, the families of the deceased and the wounded receive all of the benefits (they deserve),” Platoni said. “Then there will be closure.”

No, there won’t. There won’t be closure until the U.S. acknowledges and confronts Hasan’s motives, and vows to fight those who are determined to murder Americans for the same reasons Hasan had.

Bangladesh: Al-Qaeda calls for jihad against anti-Islam secular government

Note how similar al-Zawahiri’s rhetoric here is to “Palestinian” jihadist rhetoric retailing grievances against Israel and claiming that Muslims are being massacred, etc. In the absence of a caliph, all jihad activity has to be cast as defensive, because in Sunni Islam only the caliph has the authority to declare offensive jihad. Thus the same notes tend to be sounded in all jihadist appeals.

Note also that al-Qaeda seems to think that secular government is incompatible with Islam. They must be reading the writings of greasy Islamophobes. “al-Qaeda urges resistance in Bangladesh,” from the Daily Star, February 15 (thanks to Maxwell):

Alleging that thousands of people are being killed in the streets of Bangladesh for protesting against a “collusion of the anti-Islam secular government”, al-Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahiri has invited people to “confront this crusader onslaught against Islam[.]”

The Daily Star could not independently verify the authenticity of the message.

The call came in an audio message posted by al-Qaeda’s media production house ‘As-Sahab Media’ on a website jihadology.net, which promotes jihad (war for religious cause) across the globe.

“A massacre of Muslims is being carried out these days, and the Muslim world is totally oblivious to it. The western media is colluding with the killers to belittle its significance and hide the facts,” Zawahiri said in the message.

The message titled ‘Bangladesh: A Massacre Behind a Wall of Silence’, contains photographs from Hefajat-e Islam programmes and law enforcers action on them.

It also carries statements of Maulana Abdul Rasheed Ghazi, a Pakistani cleric who was killed during security forces’ operation on July 5, 2011, and Palestinian Sunni Islamic scholar Imam Abdullah Azzam, who was killed by a car bomb blast on November 24, 1989.

“This is the bloodbath taking place in Bangladesh, without the Muslims paying the least attention to it,” said the al-Qaeda chief who took over the helm of the terrorist militant outfit after the killing of Osama bin Laden on May 2, 2011 at a house in Abottabad in Pakistan.

“Bangladesh is the victim of the conspiracy in which the agents of India, the corrupt leadership of the Pakistan army, and treacherous power hungry politicians of Bangladesh and Pakistan, who are always prepared to sacrifice everything for the sake of fulfilling their ambitions and desires, were all equal participants,” Zawahiri said.

However, the real victim was the Muslim Ummah in the subcontinent generally, and in Pakistan and Bangladesh specifically, the Egyptian physician insisted.

“The crimes that are being committed in Bangladesh today against the core beliefs of Islam, the Prophet of Islam (pbuh), and the Muslim Ummah are only the fruits of the rotten seeds sown by these criminals.

“Their purpose was not independence from Pakistan, stopping the aggression against the people of Bangladesh, or getting rid of military rule in Pakistan. None of these was the real objectives, even if these criminals took cover behind these slogans, parroted these lines, and propagated these out of their malevolence or stupidity, or due to both. None of this was the real purpose.”

The real purpose was weakening the Muslim Ummah in the subcontinent, said the al-Qaeda chief.

“It was to rip the Muslim Ummah apart into pieces, and lead it to death by getting it entangled in mutual strife, regional conflicts and wars. Above all, their purpose was to attack the real capital of this Ummah, and the secret of its strength: the Islamic faith.”

What is taking place today in Pakistan, Bangladesh, India and Afghanistan is “only a prelude to the execution of this evil plan, and the aforementioned criminals are the tools of the enemies of Islam in this vile conspiracy”, he said.

“Those who massacred the Muslims in Bangladesh only yesterday are the same people who are massacring the Muslims in Pakistan today. Similarly, those who allied with India against Pakistan by claiming that they sought to defend the honour and sanctities of Bengalis are the same people who are attacking the sanctities, beliefs, honour, lives and properties of Bengalis today.”

Continues Zawahiri: “They claimed that they created Pakistan more than 60 years ago to defend Islam and Muslims in the subcontinent. Today we have a Pakistan that has no Shariah, no independence and no honour.

“Its government, army, intelligence, police and judiciary act as mercenaries hired to defend the interests of the crusader onslaught in South Asia.”

Similarly, they claimed that they created Bangladesh more than 40 years ago to protect the independence, glory, honour and freedom of its people, he said.

“But today we see Bangladesh turning into a huge prison in which the sanctities, honour, dignity and sacred places of Muslims are violated. Their lives are put at stake, and they are tortured in defence of the crusader onslaught, which is fighting Islam politically, militarily and ideologically.”

Bangladesh, which they claimed to have won from Pakistan so that it may get its freedom, is being turned into a subjugated surrogate of India, the Islamist theologian alleged.

“These anti-Islamic policies that assail Islamic beliefs, symbols and the noble Prophet of Islam (pbuh), are only a manifestation of complete subjugation to India.”

The events in Bangladesh enjoy the blessings of both India and America, since their interests in fighting Islam overlap, and this is why their bilateral relations are becoming stronger day by day.

This is the bitter truth that we must be aware of, so that we can take the first step on the road to freeing ourselves from this misfortune, humiliation and subservience to foreign powers.

Zawahiri alleged that thousands of people are being killed in the streets of Bangladesh “without any guilt, except that they have come out to protest against the collusion of the anti-Islam secular government with a bunch of transgressing secularists who are heaping insults and vulgar abuses on Islam and the Prophet of Islam (pbuh)”.

“Hundreds of callers to the religion and scholars are also facing hardships, manhunts, imprisonment, trials, death sentences and life imprisonments without any guilt except that they have taken a stand against the agents of this crusader onslaught, who are being used as tools by the leading criminals of the western world to distort the image of Islam and poke fun at this religion, its prophet and beliefs.”

He invited Muslims in Bangladesh “to confront this crusader onslaught against Islam, which is being orchestrated by the leading criminals in the subcontinent and the West against Islam, the Prophet of Islam and the Islamic creed, so that they may turn you into slaves of a despotic and disbelieving system”.

“The system which they want to impose on you seeks to enslave mankind, steal the resources and divide it into segments with its hellish and brutal apparatus.”

UK: Muslims returning from Syria plotted Mumbai-style jihad mass murder attack in London

250 jihad warriors from Syria have already returned home and are plotting jihad mass murder attacks. No one, apparently, thought of keeping them out of the country; that honor the British reserve only for foes of jihad. In the coming months and years the British will reap the fruits of their craven appeasement of Islamic supremacist groups, and refusal to confront the bitter reality of the alignment of the many of the so-called “moderate” groups that the British government encourages and funds with Islamic jihad terror groups.

“Hundreds of British jihadis returning from fight in Syria spark terror alert after police and MI5 thwart Mumbai-style attack on London,” by Amanda Williams in the Daily Mail, February 16:

Hundreds of British jihadis have returned from fighting in Syria, sparking a terror alert in Britain.

Senior security officials have said that around 250 British based ‘extremist tourists’ have returned home, and are now suspected of wanting to carry out attacks here.

The figure is five times higher than previously thought and includes several ‘veterans’ who have fought in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

MI5 and police have already intercepted an alleged serious plot by jihadis returning from the war torn region last Autumn.

They were said to be planning a Mumbai-style gun attack on civilians in a crowded place, possibly London.

The returnees are now being monitored by the security services, The Sunday Times reports.

A senior Whitehall security official told paper: ‘Well over half of those who travelled out have come back.’

Last week it was announced that extremist videos which help to radicalise impressionable young men are to be blocked from the internet in the UK.

The Home Office is in talks with web companies to refuse access to violent films hosted overseas ‘at a network level’, MailOnline can reveal.

The plans for what will effectively be ‘cyber border controls’ have been drawn up by James Brokenshire, promoted to immigration minister at the weekend.

Ministers were spurred into action by the growing threat from jihadists in Syria.

Around 2,000 Europeans are thought to be fighting in Syria, including at least 200 known to the British security services.

It is feared that fighters returning to the UK will seek to radicalise young men in particular to launch terror attacks at home and abroad.

Anti-terror police and the Crown Prosecution Service can currently demand that vile videos posted on UK websites be removed.

Since February 2010, the Counter Terrorism Internet Referral Unit (CTIRU) has taken down more than 21,000 pieces of illegal terrorist online content.

If the CTIRU and prosecutors deem material to be illegal it can be blocked from parts of the public sector, including schools and hospitals but this does not extend to domestic users and filters can be turned off.

Last week, video footage capturing the final moments of a British suicide bomber’s life was released by a terrorist group in Syria.

The clip, recorded by the al-Qaeda-aligned group Jabhat al-Nusra, shows Abdul Waheed Majeed relaxing and smiling moments before he carried out the suicide attack, the first by a Briton.

In the ‘martydom’ video, the 41-year-old is seen wearing white Muslim robe while posing for photos with fellow soldiers and pointing up to the sky.

Married father of three Majeed is suspected of driving a lorry into a jail in Aleppo and detonating a bomb last week.

Officials have not confirmed the identity of the bomber amid reports that a UK jihadi, who used the name Abu Suleiman al-Britani, carried out the bombing.

Counter-terrorism officers have searched Majeed’s home in Crawley which is also the ex-home of schoolgirl Sarah Payne’s killer Roy Whiting, according to neighbours.

Majeed, known as Waheed, left Britain six months ago, telling his family he was going on a humanitarian mission to Syria.

Jihad terror group recruiter invites reporter to convert to Islam, says everywhere there is music, there is ungodliness

Abubakar Shariff Ahmed is a recruiter for jihad. “His advice is that, if Islam is under attack, which he says it is, then it is every Muslim’s duty to wage jihad.” This is in line with the classic formulations of Islamic jurisprudence, which stipulate that exactly that: that jihad becomes the personal duty of every Muslim if a Muslim land is attacked. He also invites Gabriel Gatehouse to accept Islam, and denounces music as leading to ungodliness in line with Islamic law’s prohibition on music.

What Ahmed says actually coincides with what “moderate” Muslim spokesmen say in the West, that jihad only has a military component in defense of Muslim lands. However, his involvement in a jihad terror group is strange, since those spokesmen routinely claim that jihad terror groups are made up of people who do not know anything about Islam and do not follow it properly, but only use it as a cover for their activities. Yet Abubakar Shariff Ahmed seems to be quite pious and devout. What he assumes about music also contradicts the common claim that the Islamic prohibition of music is the invention of greasy Islamophobes. Does Abubakar Shariff Ahmed have a secret stash of the writings of greasy Islamophobes under his bed?

There Is No Fun In Islam Update: “An atheist meets an al-Shabab ‘recruiter,’” by Gabriel Gatehouse for BBC News, February 16 (thanks to all who sent this in):

Abubakar Shariff Ahmed is not a hard man to find. Ask around in the Majengo area of Mombasa and people will know where he lives.

But ask around too conspicuously and you are likely to arouse suspicion.

Mr Ahmed is perhaps better known by his nickname, Makaburi. It means “graveyard” in Swahili.

His name features on US and UN sanctions lists of people suspected of involvement in terrorism – accused of recruiting young Kenyan Muslims for violent militant activity in Somalia.

He himself believes the Kenyan police will one day try to kill him. So he is careful about his security….

Makaburi’s manner may be charming but his beliefs are uncompromising. The time is near he told me. An army of Allah will rise up out of the desert. It will come bearing a black flag and establish a global Islamic caliphate.

He denies recruiting for al-Shabab, or calling on his followers to travel to Somalia to fight.

“I do not have any followers,” he says at one point. I nod towards the bearded teenagers. “Who are they?” I ask. “They have come to ask my advice,” he says.

His advice is that, if Islam is under attack, which he says it is, then it is every Muslim’s duty to wage jihad.

After the interview we sat together on the roof where the breeze had picked up and the air was beginning to cool. “Let me invite you to Islam,” he said, breaking once more into that charming smile.

I smiled back. “Regretfully,” I said, “I am an atheist.”

He screwed up his face, and waved towards the two bearded students, loitering now next to a nearby pigeon coop.

“Look at them,” he said. “Each from a different Kenyan tribe, and me from yet another. But thanks to Islam, we are brothers. Religion brings us together.”

I countered with a story I had once heard on this very programme. A BBC reporter in Bosnia, during the war in the 1990's, had asked an elderly gentleman whether he was a Croat or a Muslim?

The man’s reproachful response had struck home: “I am a musician,” he had said. Music could unite where religion divided. Makaburi was unimpressed.

“Everywhere there is music, there is ungodliness,” he said
The Koran

“Define ungodliness,” I challenged him. I was beginning to enjoy our discussion.

He told me a story about a sailor he had known who had spent a long time at sea aboard a cargo ship. According to custom, after going to the toilet, he would wash instead of wipe.

But he was the only Muslim on board, and eventually the other sailors confronted him about the splashes of water around the loo. Could he stop it please, they found it unhygienic.

They were sitting at breakfast and there was a can of condensed milk open on the table. Makaburi’s sailor friend took the hand of one of his colleagues and dabbed it with some of the sweet sticky substance.

“Now wipe it off with a tissue,” he told him, “then lick your hand. Tell me does it still taste of condensed milk?”

The sailor did so and admitted that yes, his hand still tasted sweet.
Kenya and Somalia map

The dabbing was repeated and the sailor was now invited to wash his hand with water.

Did his hand still taste of milk? It did not. The point was made.

“But surely this is not what it all boils down to,” I protested. “Of course not,” Makaburi beamed. “But let me give you a copy of the Koran,” he pleaded. “You read it, you will see.”

I promised I would, but on one condition. Would Makaburi in return listen to my favourite jazz album, and tell me honestly what he thought?

He looked disgusted. “No,” he said, “no way. I have not listened to music for more than a decade.” And so we parted, our cultural exchange, between atheist and Islamist, unconsummated.

Jihad me at hello: Canadian counter-terror agent in romance with alleged Iranian spy she was tracking

Oh, this is awkward. Darling, dinner was lovely, and you looked so cute in your suicide vest. Really, I didn’t mean to offend you by suggesting we get a bottle of wine. I just wasn’t thinking. And wasn’t it nice of the men in the black helicopter to give us a lift home? Yes, I know they make you nervous. Yes, I know you don’t like the people I work with. It’s just a job, okay? I know, I know. Calm down, honey, please. Allahu what? Oh, I just can never talk to you when you get this way. Honey, you know how I hate it when you call me a kaffir sharmuta… “Canada probes agent’s romance with spy target,” from Agence France-Press, February 15 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):

Montreal: Canada is investigating one of its anti-terrorism agents for having a year-long affair with her target, an alleged Iranian spy, an official said on Friday.

The Montreal French-language daily La Presse said a seemingly innocent text sent from a cell phone in the Ottawa region triggered the probe.

“Hey darling, I have a little something special I want to give you for Christmas. ;) I hope that you have a great Christmas. Let’s talk soon, okay? I love you and I miss you. xxo,” it reportedly said.

The Passport Canada employee assigned to an Integrated National Security Enforcement Team was tasked with following the comings and goings of the suspect, an Iranian-born Canadian living in Montreal.

According to La Presse, she herself became the target of an internal investigation after her affair was revealed recently. She was also suspended.

Officials said they want to ensure that no sensitive information was leaked.

“Our government takes such allegations very seriously,” Alexis Pavlich, spokeswoman for Immigration Minister Chris Alexander, told AFP.

“As soon as we became aware of the allegations, Minister Alexander asked officials to take swift and firm action to ensure the security and integrity of the program was not compromised in any way.”

The Canadian counter-terrorism security teams (INSET) were formed in 2002 in response to the September 11, 2001 terror attacks in the United States.

The man in INSET’s crosshairs is involved in real estate development in Venezuela, where he is believed to have come into contact with Iranian nationals working with Caracas on joint projects.

Canada is a fervent critic of both Iran and Venezuela, and Canadian federal police have been scrutinizing their partnerships in recent years.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police, according to La Presse, suspect the Montreal businessman, identified as Arian Azarbar, is spying for Iran.

But Azarbar rejected the allegations. “I’m just a businessman,” he told La Presse. “What could I possibly have of interest to give to the Iranian government?”

Nigeria: Jihad mass murder death toll at Christian village reaches 106

The unimaginable horror of this is compounded by the world’s indifference. The few who dare to call attention to jihad attacks like this one are vilified, mocked, shunned, ridiculed, and defamed, even as such attacks multiply and the body count mounts ever higher. Right now Western governments have apparently decided that jihad attacks like this one can’t happen in their countries, and so don’t matter, and that when they take place in faraway lands such as Nigeria, they need not disturb the comforting fictions about Islam’s jihad doctrine that form the cornerstone of so much of their domestic and foreign policy.

An update on this story. “Over 100 killed in Islamist attack in northern Nigeria,” from AFP, February 16:

Kano (Nigeria) (AFP) – Suspected Boko Haram Islamists killed more than 100 people in an attack on a village in Nigeria, a local senator said on Sunday.

The attackers stormed the village in Nigeria’s restive northeastern Borno state on Saturday, slaughtering scores of civilians and sending many others fleeing.

“A hundred and six people, including an old woman, have been killed by the attackers, suspected to be Boko Haram gunmen,” senator Ali Ndume told AFP.

“Sixty of the dead have been buried while the rest are awaiting burial,” he said, adding the attacks in the area were becoming “deadlier and more frequent by the day.”

The raid took place on Saturday in the mostly Christian village of Izghe in Borno, which has been under emergency rule since May last year in a bid to stop an Islamist rebellion that has claimed thousands of lives since 2009.

A local farmer who escaped by scaling the fence of his house and crawling on his belly for 40 minutes said the attackers had gone door-to-door looking for those hiding in their houses.

“The attackers came around 9:30 pm (20.30 GMT) in six trucks and some motorcycles. They were dressed in military uniform,” Barnabas Idi said. “They asked men to assemble at a place, and began hacking and slaughtering them.”

There were no security forces in the town at the time of the attack, he said.

The head of the local government in the area, Maina Ularamu, earlier told AFP: “From the latest information I have gathered, more than 60 people have been killed.”

“We suspect that the gunmen were members of Boko Haram. They have taken over the village,” said Ularamu.

“They looted businesses and food stores and loaded all their spoils into vehicles owned by residents and fled into the bush,” he added.

The official was speaking from Abuja and said he was preparing to return to Maiduguri, the state capital, to deal with the fallout of the attack.

Hundreds of villagers in Borno had already fled to Maiduguri after Boko Haram militants last week killed 43 people in two separate attacks.

The militant sect has said it is fighting to create a strict Islamic state in Nigeria’s mainly Muslim north.

The southern half of the oil-rich country, Africa’s most populous, is mainly Christian.

Gunmen also attacked a fishing village on Lake Chad on Saturday, killing an unspecified number of residents.

A survivor said several people had drowned in the lake while trying to escape the gunmen.

Military spokesman Mohammed Dole confirmed the attack but declined to comment further saying the area fell under the jurisdiction of a multinational task force comprising troops from Nigeria, Niger and Chad.

Boko Haram militants have carried out frequent attacks in both cities and remote areas of the northeast, despite a military operation launched when emergency rule was declared….

UK: Muslim gets three years prison dawah for jihad murder plot against Prince Harry

Ashraf Islam is no different from Mujaahid Abu Hamza and Ismail ibn Abdullah, who murdered British soldier Lee Rigby on a London street. The only differences are that Ashraf Islam’s target was higher profile, and that he failed. But both were jihad attempts which the jihadis justified by referring to the alleged atrocities of the British Armed Forces — as all jihads must in the absence of a caliph be justified as defensive, no matter how far-fetched that may be.
“Convicted criminal who plotted to kill Prince Harry jailed for three years,” from The Guardian, February 10 (thanks to Renko):
A convicted criminal who plotted to kill Prince Harry has been jailed.
Ashraf Islam, 31, said he had a “moral right to judge” the royal because he disagreed with the work of the British Armed Forces, of which Prince Harry is a member.
The judge at Isleworth Crown Court in London described Islam’s plot as “vague and unlikely to succeed”, but said he presented a risk to the public.
Islam, of no fixed address but who had been living in west London, was handed a three-year jail term.
Islam pleaded guilty to making a threat to kill Prince Harry, at Uxbridge Magistrates Court in May last year.
He had earlier handed himself in to police and volunteered the information about the plot, defence counsel Roxanne Morrell said.
Judge Richard McGregor-Johnson, the recorder for the royal borough of Kensington and Chelsea, said he would not go over details of Islam’s plot.
But he told the court during the brief hearing: “This was not a threat made in isolation.
“The examination of your computer revealed you conducted research on his (Prince Harry’s) whereabouts and intentions.
“You had given the matter considerable thought.”
He added: “The reason behind that is that you thought he and other serving officers had some moral guilt, and you thought you had a moral right to judge.
“I accept that there is nothing here that could be described as professional plans as to your expressed intentions.
“Your plan was vague and unlikely to succeed.”
But the judge said police would have intervened had Islam, who has previous convictions for dishonesty and for involvement in an attempted robbery, attempted to carry out his plan.
The judge said he considered a longer sentence, but said it would have been deemed “excessive”….
It certainly would have been at a time when Great Britain is doing everything it can to appease Islamic supremacists. Britain’s new masters might have found a longer sentence “Islamophobic.”

India: Muslim attempted jihad mass murder attack on mosque because tourists were entering it in skimpy clothes

Skimpy-clothed’ tourists triggered Jama Masjid attack,” by Vijay V Singh for TNN, February 7 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):
MUMBAI: Indian Mujahideen (IM) terrorist Yasin Bhatkal organized the attack on Delhi’s Jama Masjid in 2010 as he was upset with tourists entering the mosque in skimpy clothes. This is what Yasin told the National Investigation Agency (NIA) following his arrest from the India-Nepal border last year.
Yasin had not discussed the plan with IM chief Riyaz Bhatkal before the attack, the NIA interrogation report to the Centre said.
Two terrorists on a bike opened shot at tourists at Jama Masjid on September 19, 2010, and Yasin parked an explosive-laden car near the mosque to ensure maximum damage. But the timer on the bomb failed, saving hundreds of lives. Two Taiwanese tourists were injured in the firing.
IM founder Riyaz Bhatkal had apparently instructed Yasin to target prominent places in Delhi on the anniversary of Batla House encounter and also sent terror operatives including Waqqas and Asadullah Akhtar alias Tabrez to help Yasin.
Yasin arranged a rented accommodation for the two at Shastri Park in Delhi and himself lived at Shaheen Bagh. He told NIA that he along with an accomplice Qaiser alias Chhotoo visited Jama Masjid on July 15, 2009 and was incensed to find some Russian woman tourists dancing in “objectionable clothes” in the rain
inside the mosque. They were “reduced to tears” by the scene, Yasin claimed, adding he hatched the Jama Masjid attack “to teach the tourists a lesson”.
Yasin procured weapons from Delhi and bought 20 kg potassium nitrate and other chemicals from Anand Parbat area; with the chemicals, he made the bombs at his hideout, he told investigators. Yasin stole a bike from Gandhi Nagar to be used by Waqqas and Tabrez and also picked up a Maruti car from the same area. He tried to steal another car but dropped the plan after its alarm went off, he told NIA.
Yasin and his associates decided to target Gate 3 of Jama Masjid as most tourists entered from there. Accordingly, he parked the bomb-laden car near the gate and walked away towards Lal Qila bus stand where his accomplice Irshad waited for him in a car, NIA officers said, adding they drove back to Shaheen Bagh. The two shooters also returned to their hideout after the firing. The two hung a white handkerchief outside their home to indicate to Yasin who visited the spot the next day that the operation was successful.
It was only three days later that Yasin informed Riyaz about the attack and the IM founder apparently got angry with him for targeting a Muslim-dominated area after keeping him in dark.

Appeals court upholds convictions of three members of North Carolina jihad terrorring

Where did these North Carolina jihad's get the idea that jihad meant warfare against unbelievers? Has anyone investigated the mosque they attended, or were the Feds satisfied by the imam’s saying that he had never seen these men?
“Va.-based federal appeals court upholds convictions of 3 members of NC terror ring,” from the Associated Press, February 4.

Tunisia: The controversy over sexual jihad

A hoax? Evidence of social blight? A legitimate form of jihad? In Tunisia, the controversy is still roiling. One noteworthy aspect of this study is that when the reports of this initially came out, many Muslim spokesmen in the West denounced the whole idea as an “Islamophobic” hoax. But unless “Islamophobes” have thoroughly infiltrated the Tunisian media, there is no way that could be the case. “Tunisian Daily Al-Shurouq’s Campaign Against ‘Sexual Jihad,’” by B. Chernitsky and R. Goldberg for MEMRI, January 31:
Introduction
At the close of 2012, a tweet attributed to Saudi cleric Muhammad Al-’Arifi, a member of the Association of Muslim Clerics, in which he allegedly permitted young Muslim women to journey to Syria to have sexual relations with mujahideen fighting the Syrian regime, was circulated on the Internet. The tweet (see below) was construed by many in the media as a religious ruling (fatwa). Al-’Arifi himself repeatedly denied issuing the tweet, adding that ‘sexual jihad’ was  equivalent to prostitution.
