San Francisco Police Officer Hits, Kicks Homeless Man Who Slept On Bus

SAN FRANCISCO,

Video recorded on a city bus shows a San Francisco police officer kicking and hitting a homeless man after the officer apparently struggled to wake the man up.

Officer Raymond Chu also allegedly pepper sprayed 36-year-old Bernard Warren, according to the San Francisco Public Defender's Office, as their scuffle moved from inside the empty bus at the last stop in the Richmond district to the street outside.

Warren was hospitalized and jailed for two weeks until a judge saw the footage, which was recorded on Feb. 11. He has been charged with threatening an officer, punishable by a year behind bars.

"This sort of force was totally unnecessary. It was completely over the top," said San Francisco Public Defender Jeff Adachi, whose office is representing Warren. "If you find anyone sleeping on a bus, it's reasonable to wake them up and ask [them] to leave. Sure, but is that reason to beat [someone] down?

The explicit video below, recorded by surveillance cameras on the No. 5 bus, shows Warren slowly rising from the back of the bus after Chu tries rousing him. He taunts Chu as he lingers in the aisle.

"Don't touch me. I could beat your ass."

Chu responds, saying, "Dude, fucking what did you say?"

Chu then shoves Warren and kicks him through the exit. Outside the bus, he shoves Warren again and appears to take out his baton.

"Are we done here? Keep walking," Chu says.

A camera looking through the windshield shows Warren walk back and forth. Chu cocks his arm and brings it down with a crack as the baton hits Warren. According to the public defender's office, after a few more hits, Chu pepper sprayed Warren.

Chu has previously said that Warren came at him with clenched fists, according to documents cited by the public defender's office.

Warren had deep bruises on his legs and burns on his face from the pepper spray, according to his lawyer.

"Force is never a pretty sight and the officer gave orders for Mr. Warren to walk away. The officer's report is consistent with what we see on the video," said San Francisco Police Department Sgt. Monica Macdonald in an email to HuffPost. "Mr Warren was asked/told to leave and he returned several times and he continued to threaten to beat the office which is a crime - which you can see and hear in the video."

A jury will hear the case against Warren on March 4.

"Fundamentally we have a situation where a man was sleeping, which is not a crime," said Coalition on the Homelessness Executive Director Jennifer Friedenbach. "It started off as completely innocent. This should not be a police situation. By aggressively charging [Warren], this sends a message to the officer that his behavior was acceptable, that it’s okay to escalate non-criminal situations."

Condom maker’s share price rises as South Korea legalizes adultery

PRESS SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA
A South Korean court on Thursday abolished a 62 year old law that criminalized extramarital affairs, and the stock price of a prominent condom maker immediately shot up 15 percent.

The Constitutional Court’s ruling that the law suppressed personal freedoms could affect many of the more than 5,400 people who have been charged with adultery since 2008, when the court earlier upheld the legislation, according to court law.

Any current charges against those people could be thrown out and those who have received guilty verdicts will be eligible for retrials, according to a court official who declined to be named, citing office rules.

Under the law, having sex with a married person who is not your spouse was punishable by up to two years in prison. Nearly 53,000 South Koreans have been indicted on adultery charges since 1985, but prison terms have been rare.

The stock price of South Korean condom maker Unidus Corp. shot up after the court ruling, surging by the daily limit of 15 percent on South Korea’s Kosdaq market.

Debate over the adultery ban, which has been part of South Korea’s criminal law since 1953, intensified in recent years as fast-changing social trends challenged traditional values.

Supporters of the law said it promoted monogamy and kept families intact, while opponents argued that the government had no right to interfere in people’s private lives and sexual affairs.

The court was acting on 17 complaints submitted from 2009 to 2014 by people who had been charged under the law.

Seven judges in the court, which rules on the constitutionality of laws, supported the ruling, while two dissented, the court said. The support of six judges is needed to abolish a law.

The law “excessively restricts citizens’ basic rights, such as the right to determine sexual affairs,” the court said, explaining that the legislation no longer contributed to overall public interest.

It was the fifth time the court had reviewed the adultery ban since 1990. In October 2008, five of the judges said the law was unconstitutional.

Legal experts say the adultery ban had lost much of its effect because people increasingly settled marriage disputes in civil courts. Adultery could be prosecuted only on a complaint made by a spouse who had filed for divorce. The case immediately ended if the plaintiff dropped the charge, which was common when financial settlements were reached.

“Recently, it was extremely rare for a person to serve a prison term for adultery,” said Lim Ji-bong, a law professor at Sogang University in Seoul. “The number of indictments has decreased as charges are frequently dropped.”

South Korea, along with Taiwan, had been a rare non-Muslim nation to criminalize adultery, according to Park So-hyun, an official at the Korea Legal Aid Center for Family Relations, a government-funded counseling office.

Many legal experts had predicted that the court would abolish the adultery ban, but the decision was still controversial in a country that remains greatly influenced by a conservative Confucian heritage, despite decades of Western influence.

Park Dae Chul, a lawmaker for the conservative ruling party, Saenuri, said it respects the court’s decision but that the country needs to strengthen its efforts to protect marriage and the family system.

Lawmaker Yoo Eun Hye of the liberal opposition New Politics Alliance for Democracy said the decision reflected social changes.

Last year the government banned access to Ashley Madison, a dating website for people who want to cheat on their partners, over concerns that the service could encourage adultery. The Korea Communications Standards Commission, the country’s Internet censorship body, said it has not decided whether to lift the ban on the website.

First Head Transplant Possible Within Two Years, Says Italian ‘Frankensurgeon’

Controversial Italian neurosurgeon Sergio Canavero claims he could perform the world's first ever human head transplant in 2017, despite ethical and scientific reservations from many of his colleagues.

"The Wright brothers flew their first plane when every so-called expert in the world thought that this was impossible. So, I don't believe the word 'impossible' - I have been working on this project for 30 years, and the technology is now there," Canavero, who heads the Turin Advanced Neuromodulation Group, told Sky News.

Canavero's team, which previously touted their plans for a whole-eye transplant, published a paper outlining the procedure two years ago, and say they are now ready to find subjects for the experimental procedure.

"If society doesn't want it, I won't do it. But if people don't want it in the US or Europe, that doesn't mean it won't be done somewhere else," the neurosurgeon told the New Scientist.

Prior to the surgery, the two bodies would be cooled, to preserve them better without oxygen, and then their necks would be sliced open and major blood vessels connected between the donor's body and the recipient's head.

The key stage would be the severing and re-attachment of the spinal cord, which would have to be cleanly sliced, and would then present two "spaghetti-like" bundles of nerves, which would need to be connected to each other. Canavero foresees this being done with polyethylene glycol, a material that enables fat in different tissues to mesh.

The neck would then be stitched shut, and the patient placed in an artificial coma for four weeks, allowing the body to heal without movement.

Canavero previously estimated that the pioneering surgery would cost upwards of €10 million, and that the perfect initial recipient would be a person with a young, healthy brain, suffering from muscular dystrophies or metabolic disorders. He proposes initial experiments where both of the individuals in the surgery would be brain-dead.

Most of the scientific objections to the procedure focus on the impossibility of restoring body control after the refusing of the spine. Currently, it is commonly impossible to overcome paralysis when a spinal cord is completely severed, even when the rest of the body belongs to the same person. An ambitious procedure performed by Polish doctors last year, managed to restore movement by implanting lab-grown nerve cells into the spine.

But Richard Borgens, director of the Center for Paralysis Research at Purdue University, Indiana, said that Canavero's surgery offers no such guarantees.

"There is no evidence that the connectivity of cord and brain would lead to useful sentient or motor function following head transplantation," he told the New Scientist.

"This is such an overwhelming project, the possibility of it happening is very unlikely. I don't believe it will ever work, there are too many problems with the procedure. Trying to keep someone healthy in a coma for four weeks - it's not going to happen," said Harry Goldsmith, a clinical professor of neurological surgery at the University of California, Davis, himself a leading expert on reconnecting spinal tissue that enables paralyzed people to walk again.

Yet Canavero can reassure himself that his 'Frankensurgery' is not without precedent. The first attempted dog head transplant dates back to more than a century ago, and Soviet scientist Vladimir Demikhov performed multiple such procedures in the 1950s. US surgeon Robert J. White famously performed a head transplant between two monkeys in 1970, with the survivor living for nine days.

In all of the previous procedures, the recipients remained paralyzed, and all struggled with immune rejection of the new body parts, though with improved techniques, this is not an insurmountable problem.

Ethical problems - from religious considerations, to the simple ickiness-factor - are also likely to slow down progress.

"I believe that what is specifically human is held within the higher cortex. If you modify that, then you are not the same human and you should question whether it is ethical. In this case, you're not altering the cortex," said Patricia Scripko, a neurologist and bioethicist at the Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System in California, who does not believe the procedure is possible, but insists it is not objectionable.

"If a head transplant were ever to take place, it would be very rare. It's not going to happen because someone says 'I'm getting older, I'm arthritic, maybe I should get a body that works better and looks better'."

Despite the myriad objections - and even his supporters are skeptical of the two-year timeframe - Canavero will now have the chance to convince his colleagues, when he will present his specific plans for the surgery to the prestigious congress of the American Academy of Neurological and Orthopedic Surgeons in Maryland in June.

"I first spoke about the idea two years ago, to get people talking about it. I'm trying to go about this the right way, but before going to the moon, you want to make sure people will follow you," he said.

We don't even know how half of our crippling illnesses come about in the first place but I suspect swapping bodies to escape a degenerative illness will only result in the new body coming down with the same illness...if it lives.

Don't we have more important things to worry about these days?

Girl Locked Up By Parents In A Filthy Shack For 6 Years Due To Having A Boyfriend They Disapproved

A shocking tale of a girl becomes viral and makes rounds to the social media as her story depicts her living in an unimaginable environment for 6 years already. Pictures of her lying on top of a pile of straws with some food around her went viral as it was obvious that she is malnourished due to her 6 years of being confined in a filthy shack.

Meet Zhang Qi,  24 year old, the woman who has been locked up by her own parents for 6 years as they disapproved of her boyfriend. Zhang Qi had called it quits with her boyfriend in 2009 as an order from her parents. Zhang thought that everything will be fine after it, but she was wrong. Her parents had decided to keep her in a filthy shed that became her home for 6 years. Due to this, she was not able to see the world outside for such a long time.

She tried to escape several times but her parents spread word to their village that she was mentally ill and ‘for her own protection’, it is necessary for her to get locked up. A villager even told news stations that her parents had controlled the situation and stopped any Good Samaritan from helping their poor daughter.

“Her parents are powerful people here and everyone was told not to interfere, Everyone knew about the girl in the house. I moved away and only come back to visit occasionally so I don’t care about their threats, and that’s why I was happy to expose these pictures online after the local authorities refused to do anything,”

“Every time I came back for Chinese New Year I went to visit her secretly. On my latest visit though I saw her lying on a pile of straw with a couple of blankets and some food around her and I just decided enough was enough. Whether what they say about her having mental problems is true or not, she is being treated like an animal here and I’m sick of it so I contacted the police, and then posted the images online,” Chow Jen

As of now, there is still no official report regarding the current status of the young woman since her pictures went viral all over the web.

Does your chicken need a sweater?

When the temperature drops and chickens lose feathers, many people bundle up their flocks, but others say the garments are more about fashion than function.

Just as our furry friends sometimes need a little extra warmth during the winter months, so do our feathered ones, according to some chicken owners.

While chicken sweaters may seem more of a fashion statement than anything, the people who knit or buy them for their flocks say the knitted garments keep their birds warm during molting season and prevent the chickens from picking at new feathers as they grow in.

"In colder climates like ours it can get quite cold in the fall or the spring when the birds lose their feathers," said Maureen Schmidt, who lives in Kelowna, British Columbia. "Without adequate feathering, they can get quite cold, especially if they drop their old feathers all at once."

Schmidt's mother knitted several warm garments for her daughter's chickens (pictured right).

The sweaters have an opening for the birds' heads and wings, and they button to secure to their bodies.

Schmidt says the sweaters don't restrict her chickens' movements and that the birds adjust to them quickly.

"It usually takes anywhere from a few hours to a day before the chickens adjust completely to the sweater. Once they do they go about their daily scratch and peck as if they grew the sweaters themselves."

Chicken sweaters are also used by many rescue organizations that take in battery hens, which are usually sold for slaughter when they start producing fewer eggs. These birds are often missing a lot of their feathers because of the cramped, stressful conditions they live in.

However, while many people with chickens insist that sweaters keep their flocks healthy and warm, not everyone thinks the knitted garments are necessary.

Other chicken keepers point out that the birds are warm-blooded and able to regulate their own body temperatures by fluffing their feathers, roosting and huddling together for warmth.

They argue that such natural behaviors can be restricted by sweaters. For example, when chickens fluff their feathers, this creates air pockets that keeps warm air close to the bird's body.

"We ought not confuse our comfort level with a chicken's comfort level," writes Kathy Shea Mormino, who maintains the Chicken Chick blog. "In freezing temperatures, the average backyard chicken that is molting furiously would be better served by a retreat to an indoor dog crate in the basement or garage than a sweater."

hen wearing sweaterStill, other keepers say the use of chicken sweaters depends on several factors, including climate, the bird's health and the behavior of the rest of the flock, which sometimes peck at other chickens' exposed skin during molting.

And several animal shelters in cold climates say the tiny sweaters are beneficial to featherless rescued battery hens.

"The hens usually come out of farms quite bald and can be underweight,” said Miranda McPherson, who has knitted sweaters for England’s Little Hen Rescue. "They will soon fatten up and regain their feathers with the right care, but while they are waiting for their feathers to grow back, they can benefit from our knitted jumpers."

You can find knitting patterns and directions to make your own chicken sweater online, or you can purchase them from several Etsy sellers, including Schmidt's Folk and Farm shop.

Not sure if sweaters are right for your flock? Here's more information about how to keep your chickens warm this winter.

Coffee machine blast kills youth

A 21-year-old man died due to an explosion in a coffee dispensing machine used by a catering house at a function in north-east Delhi’s Sundar Nagari.

He sustained burns in the incident on Sunday and died on Monday, the police said.
The deceased, identified as Rashid, lived with family at Garima Garden in Ghaziabad. According to the police, he was working as a labourer with Golu Tent House in Sundar Nagri.

On Sunday, the tent house was booked for an engagement function at Sundar Nagri F-Block. “Rashid was working on the coffee dispensing machine when the incident occurred at around 8:30 pm,” said a police officer. After initial probe, it was suspected that the machine exploded due to accumulation of pressure.

Three others nearby were also injured. The police were informed, but the injured were taken to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital before they reached the spot. “Rashid succumbed to burn injuries on Monday morning,” the officer added.

The injured have been identified as Naim, Imran and Guddu, who were invited to the function. The police said Imran’s condition is serious, while Naim and Guddu were discharged after first-aid treatment.

The police have questioned workers of the tent house and found that they were using machines of inferior quality. A case of causing death due to negligence has been filed with Nand Nagri police station. Rashid’s body was handed over to family after post-mortem on Monday. He is survived by his parents, two brothers and four sisters.

The investigating officer of the case told Deccan Herald that the owner of the tent house is likely to be arrested. Rashid had been working with the tent house for the past six months and also worked with other tent houses in north-east Delhi and Ghaziabad.

A red star visited our solar system 70000 years ago

Astronomers have concluded that 70,000 years ago, a tiny, dim star probably grazed the solar system crossing its distant cloud of comets, called the Oort Cloud.

No other star is known to have ever approached our solar system this close five times closer than the current closest star, Proxima Centauri. On the other hand, that’s still a thousand times further away from the Sun than the dwarf planet Pluto.

Astronomers reached the conclusion after analyzing the current speed and trajectory of a the now-faraway star, nicknamed “Scholz’s star.” The star also has a small companion in the form of a brown dwarf, a type of “failed” star.

Researchers including Eric Mamajek of the University of Rochester in New York reported the findings in a paper published in Astrophysical Journal Letters.

The trajectory suggests, they said, that Scholz’s star passed roughly 8 trillion kilometers, or 5 trillion miles, away. This equals 52,000 Earth-Sun distances away or about four-fifths of a light year.

A light-year is the distance light travels in a year; our closest neighbor star Proxima Centauri is 4.2 light years distant.

The astronomers say in the paper that they are 98 percent sure that Scholz’s star crossed the “outer Oort Cloud” a region at the edge of the solar system filled with trillions of comets a mile or more across. Some of these have occasionally been thrown off track and started orbiting the Sun more closely, becoming what are known as “long-period” comets, though Mamajek said Scholz’s star was probably not a major cause of this sort of event.

The star originally caught Mamajek’s attention during a discussion with co-author Valentin D. Ivanov, from the European Southern Observatory. Scholz’s star had an unusual mix of characteristics including that it was apparently moving directly away from our Solar system, and fast. Most stars as nearby as Scholz’s show more sideways, or “tangential,” motion across the sky, said Mamajek.

Astronomers estimated its speed using the Doppler-shift method, which exploits the change in light rays coming from a moving object. This is analogous to what happens when an ambulance drives quickly away and the siren seems to drop in pitch. From this information, the researchers inferred what the star’s past position must have been.

Until now, the top candidate for the closest flyby of a star to the solar system was the so-called “rogue star” HIP 85605, predicted to come close to our solar system in the next quarter-to-half million years. But Mamajek and his collaborators said it won’t penetrate the Oort Cloud, based on their new calculations.

Mamajek carried out computer simulations of where Scholz’s star could have traveled, working with former University of Rochester undergraduate Scott Barenfeld (now a graduate student at Caltech). Almost all the simulations showed the star passing through the outer Oort cloud. One out of 10 thousand run-throughs brought the star within the “inner” Oort cloud which could have triggered a disastrous “comet shower” hitting Earth and other planets.

Today, Scholz’s star is a small, dim “red dwarf” star in the constellation of Monoceros, about 20 light years away. It would have been too dim to see even when it was “here,” but flare-ups due to magnetic events could have changed that, once in a long while, for minutes or hours at a time, Mamajek said.

The star weighs only an estimated 8 percent as much as our sun, and its companion about 6 percent. The formal designation of the star is “WISE J072003.20-084651.2,” but it has been nicknamed “Scholz’s star” to honor its discoverer, astronomer Ralf-Dieter Scholz of the Leibniz-Institut für Astrophysik Potsdam in Germany, who reported it in 2013.

Figure in ISIS mass beheading video could have US ties, linguistic expert says

A linguistics expert believes the man who threatens the West in an Islamic State video purportedly showing the beheading of 21 Coptic Christians was educated in the United States.

But Erick Thomas, a professor of acoustics and dialects at North Carolina State University, says it's unclear whether the mysterious, shrouded figure in the video released on Sunday is from the U.S.

"He clearly spent a significant amount of his childhood in the United States," Thomas told Gretchen Carlson on "The Real Story" Wednesday afternoon. "Whether it was all of his childhood or not, I couldn't say that. I would say probably from the time he began his schooling, he was in the United States, but he was properly exposed to Arabic all along."

Thomas cited the man's use of a "hard G" in two instances: when he says "chopping off" and "fighting us." He also said his pronunciation of the letter "O" in "Rome" might be a clue of his upbringing as well.

"It's a good sign of influence from another language," Thomas said.

As several men in orange jumpsuits are led to a beach where they are believed to have been beheaded, one militant, dressed differently than the others, addresses the camera.

"He clearly spent a significant amount of his childhood in the United States."
- Erick Thomas, professor of acoustics and dialects at North Carolina State University
"All crusaders: safety for you will be only wishes, especially if you are fighting us all together," the militant says. "Therefore we will fight you all together," he said. "The sea you have hidden Sheikh Usama Bin Laden's body in, we swear to Allah we will mix it with your blood."

Also on Wednesday, a top Iraqi diplomat told world leaders that ISIS is harvesting the organs of its victims to fund it murderous operations, the latest charge of barbarity in a list that already includes mass beheadings, burning people alive, crucifying children and throwing people off of buildings.

The shocking new claim was presented by the Iraqi ambassador to the United Nations, who said bodies have turned up in mass graves bearing surgical incisions and missing organs such as kidneys. Ambassador Mohamed Alhakim leveled the charge as he asked the Security Council to investigate whether harvesting and selling the organs of those it executes. The claim followed an unconfirmed report late Tuesday that as many as 45 people captured by the Islamic State in the Anbar Province town of al-Baghdadi had been rounded up and burned alive.

"We have bodies," Alhakim told his international counterparts. "Come and examine them. It is clear they are missing certain parts."

Alhakim, who said a dozen doctors have been executed in Mosul for refusing to participate in organ harvesting, briefed the council on the overall situation in Iraq and accused the Islamic State group of "crimes of genocide" in targeting certain ethnic groups. The outgoing U.N. envoy to Iraq, Nikolay Mladenov, told the council that 790 people were killed in January alone by terrorism and armed conflict.

Mladenov noted the increasing number of reports and allegations that the Islamic State group is using organ harvesting as a financing method, but he said only that "it's very clear that the tactics ISIL is using expand by the day." He used an acronym for the group.

He said Iraq's most pressing goal is to win back the vast territory that the Islamic State has seized in the past year. The Sunni militants seized a third of both Iraq and neighboring Syria and imposed strict Sharia law.

"Especially worrying is the increasing number of reports of revenge attacks committed particularly against members of the Sunni community in areas liberated from ISIL control," Mladenov said.

The identities of the victims who were reportedly burned alive Tuesday in al-Baghdadi are not clear, the local police chief told the BBC. ISIS fighters reportedly captured most of the town last week.

Navy Rear Adm. John Kirby, a Pentagon spokesman, said Wednesday that U.S. authorities were aware of a video purportedly showing the executions, but that officials had not yet verified its authenticity, Fox News' Martha McCallum said on "The O'Reilly Factor."

Al-Baghdadi, which is about 50 miles northwest of Ramadi in Anbar province, is located about five miles from Ain al-Asad air base, where 400 U.S. military personnel are training Iraqi soldiers and Sunni tribesmen to take on ISIS. The base was raided last week by a small band of fighters, in what some experts believe may have been a probe in preparation for a full-scale attack.

The base has been the target of sporadic mortar fire in past weeks, and the jihadist army has been moving forces from its strongholds in Syria to Anbar Province, possibly setting the stage for a major clash with forces on the base that is now the sole bulwark between ISIS and Baghdad.

There are currently nearly 2,600 U.S. forces in Iraq, including about 450 who are training Iraqi troops at three bases across the country, including al-Asad. Forces from other coalition countries conduct the training at the fourth site, in the northern city of Irbil.

But even if ISIS militants close in on the base, taking it would require a massive force, that would present a target for airstrikes, retired Col. Thomas Lynch, a National Defense University fellow, told Fox News.

Pa. liquor control cop charged with DUI; blood alcohol 3 times limit in crash

A Pennsylvania Liquor Control Enforcement officer has found himself on the other side of the state's alcohol laws.

The Citizens Voice newspaper reports that the officer, Michael Rutkowski, 34, of Nanticoke, was found with a blood alcohol level that was over three times the legal limit when he crashed his vehicle last month.

The newspaper writes that Rutkowski, who suffered a head injury in the crash, was transported to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, where he registered a blood alcohol level of .278 percent. Pa.'s blood alcohol limit is .08 percent.

He has been charged with driving under the influence and careless driving in the single-vehicle crash, which occurred when his vehicle struck a utility pole, then a tree, head-on, the newspaper reported.

The Times Leader is reporting that the officer has been placed on restricted duty in wake of the incident.

Rutkowski's formal arraignment is set for April 10 in Luzerne County.

Texas boy suspended for saying he could make classmate ‘disappear’ with ‘Lord of the Rings’ sorcery

The ring little Aiden brought to school may not have been the true ring of power, but it had enough controversy to get him suspended from a Kermit, Texas, school.

This is the third and strangest suspension for Aiden Steward, 9, pictured on the right with a sibling, at the Texas school district.

Tolkien lore led a Texas boy to suspension after he brought his “one ring” to school.

Kermit Elementary School officials called it a threat when the 9-year-old boy, Aiden Steward, in a playful act of make-believe, told a classmate he could make him disappear with a ring forged in fictional Middle Earth’s Mount Doom.

“It sounded unbelievable,” the boy’s father, Jason Steward, told the Daily News. He insists his son “didn’t mean anything by it.”

The Stewards had just watched “The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies” days earlier, inspiring Aiden’s imagination and leading him to proclaim that he had in his possession the one ring to rule them all.

“Kids act out movies that they see. When I watched Superman as a kid, I went outside and tried to fly,” Steward said.

Aiden claimed Thursday he could put a ring on his friend's head and make him invisible like Bilbo Baggins, who stole Gollum’s "precious" in J.R.R. Tolkien’s fantasy series “The Lord of the Rings.”

“I assure you my son lacks the magical powers necessary to threaten his friend’s existence,” the boy's father later wrote in an email. "If he did, I'm sure he'd bring him right back."

Principal Roxanne Greer declined to comment on the fourth-grader’s suspension, citing confidentiality policies, according to the Odessa American, who first reported Aiden’s troubles Friday.

The family moved to the Kermit Independent School District only six months ago, but it’s been nothing but headaches for Aiden. He’s already been suspended three times this school year.

Two of the disciplinary actions this year were in-school suspensions for referring to a classmate as black and bringing his favorite book to school: "The Big Book of Knowledge."

Kermit Elementary School in Texas suspended a 9-year-old student for saying he could make his friend disappear with a magical ring of invisibility.

“He loves that book. They were studying the solar system and he took it to school. He thought his teacher would be impressed,” Steward said.

But the teacher learned the popular children’s encyclopedia had a section on pregnancy, depicting a pregnant woman in an illustration, he explained.

Memories Transplanted With Organs

I recently came across an interesting and novel phenomenon via a remarkable fact I read on Kickassfacts.com. It seems organ recipients sometimes have living memories or peculiar affinities which somehow carried over along from their donor. Can the ‘Ship of Theseus’ that arrives with new oars, planks, and sail be considered the same ship that left port?

Ethically, very few religions around the world actually have a problem with organ harvesting and transplantation. With reference to harvesting from the brain-dead, Pius XII said that knowledge of when death occurs is the domain of medical science. However some Judaic authorities take issue with harvesting the organs of a brain-dead individual because anything that will stop the heart beating causes death. Even Jehovah’s Witnesses have changed their stance since the 1980s, excluding the acceptance of an organ from their definition of cannibalism (which includes accepting blood transfusions).

However, no religions to my knowledge presently acknowledge the idea that a person may somehow be incarnate after their death when another person has accepted that person’s organ. Enter the present strange and unexplainable phenomena.

Paul Pearsall has actually written a book about the phenomenon of people retaining memories from their organ donors called “The Heart’s Code.” There are many fascinating case studies of people who have mysterious knowledge or tendencies which appeared after they accepted another person’s organ, especially when they have accepted another person’s heart. Among the strangest cases are two in which the recipient changed sexual orientation, several in which children can mysteriously identify their donor’s parents or facts about their donor’s life, and a man who has a recurring dream of the murder of his donor.

50 Shades Of Grey Injury Explosion!

Ouch! Sex toy related injuries have surged since the release of Fifty Shades of Grey 50 Shades Of Grey Injury Explosion!

he NHS and London Fire Brigade are bracing themselves for a slew of sex related injuries. Because Fifty Shades of Grey hits our cinemas and our bedrooms this weekend.

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) said today it was ‘concerned’ the film’s release could lead to a ‘spike’ in people being stuck or trapped in handcuffs or bindings.

Since April, it has attended 393 such incidents.

Meanwhile, sex toy injuries have doubled overall since 2007. And, according to recent figures, they saw a spike in 2012 and 2013 following the release of the Fifty Shades mummy porn trilogy.

These concerning stats, reported by the Washington Post, come courtesy of the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System, which has tracked casualty admissions since 1991.

Injuries relating to ‘massage devices and vibrators’ rocketed in 2012, when 2,500 people checked in at the ER. The first Fifty Shades of Grey book was released in 2011. There is no proof the two are linked, but, well, it’s safe to assume they could be.

Thankfully, most injuries incurred were not too severe.

71 per cent of patients were treated and released, with only 25 per cent requiring hospitalization. And the good news was that none of the cases required assistance from the fire department, and zero deaths were recorded.

Phew.

However, with reports that sex shops on both sides of the Atlantic are already stocking up on their sex toys ahead of the film’s release this weekend while B&Q is warning staff to expect a run on DIY S&M items there could be trouble ahead for an already stretched NHS.

Stay safe out there folks.

Dog travels 20 blocks to find owner in hospital

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA . A miniature schnauzer was living proof of the incredible bond between humans and their four legged companions when she escaped her home and walked 20 blocks into the hospital where her owner Nancy Franck was recovering from cancer surgery.

According to TV station KCRG, no one knows how Sissy found the hospital, but a surveillance video showed her walking into the lobby and wandering the halls, apparently searching for her owner.

“She missed mom,” daughter Sarah Wood told the station. “That’s all I can say. She missed mom and she knew to come see mom.”

Hospital security identified Sissy’s owner using her dog tags and brought the clever canine to Nancy Franck’s hospital room for a quick visit, KCRG reported.  Franck, who had been battling uterine cancer, said the reunion was definitely good medicine for her.

“That was great just being able to see her,” Nancy Franck told KCRG. “That was perfect. I’m glad she thought of it.”

KCRG in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, KTLA, and CNN contributed to this story.

13 Year Old Inventor Cracks Secret Of Trees To Collect Solar Power

What do trees know that we don’t? 13-year-old inventor Aidan realized that trees use a mathematical formula to gather sunlight in crowded forests. Then he wondered why we don’t collect solar energy in the same way. Big oil companies need to watch out as this 13-year-old kid and his army of trees won’t go down without a fight!

2 men beat woman with glass because she is transgender

Two men were arrested on charges of assault as a hate crime after allegedly beating a woman because she is transgender, prosecutors in New York said.

Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson said that Mashawn Sonds, 25, of Brownsville, has been arraigned on a nine count indictment in which he is charged with first degree assault as a hate crime for allegedly striking the 28 year old transgender woman in the head with a two by four piece of plexiglass, causing severe injuries.

A second defendant indicted in the attack will be arraigned later this month.

Mashawn of Hegeman Avenue, was arraigned before Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Danny Chun, on an indictment in which he is charged with first-degree assault as a hate crime, first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault as a hate crime, two counts of second-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree menacing as a hate crime and third-degree menacing.

The defendant was ordered held on $250,000. Another defendant, Tyquan Eversley, 17, of Bradford Street in East New York, was arrested in connection with the attack.

His bail was set at $17,500. Each of the defendants faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted of the top charge.

According to the police investigation, the 28-year-old transgender woman was walking with a gay male friend when she was approached by the defendants, who allegedly yelled “we don’t want f*****s on our block,” among other things.

It is alleged that Eversley then struck the victim, Kimball Hartman, with a filled garbage bag, knocking her to the ground. He then allegedly continued to assault her, as Sonds and two unapprehended others continued to yell homophobic slurs.

Sonds allegedly then picked up a piece of plexiglass and swung it at Hartman. As she tried to get away, he allegedly threw the plexiglass and struck her in the head.

The victim (who) was knocked unconscious, began seizing and suffered profuse bleeding from the back of her head. She sustained a traumatic brain injury, underwent surgery to her skull, and will likely suffer permanent injuries.

Biblical Plague of CRICKETS Terrorize Oklahoma And Smell 'Like Rotten Meat'

They're everywhere: Unusually large swarms of crickets are invading Oklahoma, covering streets, sidewalks, and businesses like this McDonalds
It’s cricket mating season in Oklahoma and unusually massive swarms of the frisky bugs are terrorizing the state’s residents.

Not only does the field cricket have a noxious odor and shrieking chirp, it has a tendency toward cannibalism so killing them only makes things worse.

Residents say the insects tend to congregate and feed on carcasses of their dead brethren, but they’re covering every street, sidewalk, and building so there’s no way to avoid the occasional crunch.

Pile-up: The crickets are difficult to control, noisy, smelly and are pouring into towns across the Sooner State. Instagram user furiousd caught this particularly nasty pile of cricket carcasses

The more they’re stomped, worse infestations around homes and businesses become.

‘I think we are going to see a little more before it gets any better,’ Oklahoma State University’s Brian Jervis told KTUL.

Experts say weather could be the cause of the usually large swarm.

‘These outbreaks seem to occur after periods of prolonged dry weather in spring and early summer followed by rainfall in July and August,’ said Rick Grantham, director of the Plant Disease and Insect Diagnostic Lab in Oklahoma State University. ‘Extensive soil cracking may be an important factor.’

Bad year: The crickets come out every year, but the weather allowed an unusually large number to emerge from their burrows to mate this season. Here, the critters congregate at a gas station.

Cannibals: Experts say the crickets are attracted to the bodies of their dead relatives, so crushing the bugs only makes the problem worse. Here, a pile up can be seen near a shady set of stairs.

'A plague has arrived': According to Rick Grantham of Oklahoma State University's Entymology department. adult crickets can be very difficult to control

The crickets lay their eggs and crawl out en masse once it’s time for mating.

And though the creatures can be tough to get rid of, experts suggest a few tricks that might ease the problem somewhat.

‘Crickets commonly spend the daylight hours hiding in dark, damp areas. Eliminating piles of bricks, stones, wood or other debris around the home will help reduce numbers,’ said Grantham. ‘aerosols applied to baseboards, door thresholds and cracks and crevices where crickets hide will normally control them.’

In addition to incessant chirping that can last deep into the night and early morning, some residents say the crickets even stink.

'After a while they all start dying and it gets to get this rotted meat smell,' one resident told KFOR.

'I will not be sleeping tonight': The crickets stick to walls, crunch underfoot wherever residents walk, and hang from walls and window screens, making just looking outside a little bit creepy

Along with up close and personal photos of their cricket experiences, Instagram users had plenty to say about the '#invasion.'

'When I look out my window, this is what I see. Needless to say I will not be sleeping tonight,' writes c_daaber721 with a photo of her cricket-covered window screen.

'A plague has arrived in OKC,' writes colleendamager.

Gypsyroseb asked, 'Crickets, anyone?'

User xnebulousx may have siad it best: 'Large amounts of crickets are gross!'
