Charlie Hebdo attack: Helicopters hunt for suspects in woods of France

Longpont, France (CNN)An intense manhunt for two brothers wanted in the Charlie Hebdo magazine massacre focused Thursday on northern France's Picardy region, where sources close to the investigation said a police helicopter might have spotted the suspects.

Authorities believe that Cherif Kouachi, 32, and Said Kouachi, 34, entered a wooded area on foot, the sources told CNN's Chris Cuomo. Now investigators are using helicopters equipped with night vision tools to try to find them, the sources said.

Earlier Thursday, a police helicopter glimpsed what investigators believed to be the fugitives in the same area, near Crepy-en-Valois, France.

Said Kouachi, left, and Cherif Kouachi are suspects in the Paris attack.

Police flooded the region, with heavily armed officers canvassing the countryside and forests in search of the killers. They came after a gas station attendant reportedly said the armed brothers threatened him near Villers-Cotterets in Picardy, stole gas and food, then drove off late Thursday morning.

About 10 kilometers (6 miles) from the gas station, police blocked a rural country road leading to the French village of Longpont. Authorities have not commented in any detail, but pictures showed heavily armed police officers with shields and helmets in the blocked-off area.

Hours later, a CNN team witnessed a convoy of 30 to 40 police vehicles leaving a site near Longpont.

Prime Minister Manuel Valls put the Picardy region on the highest alert level, that same level that the entire Ile-de-France region, including Paris, is already under.

As the search for the suspects intensified, details emerged about their past travels -- and possible training abroad.

Said Kouachi went to Yemen for training, a French official told CNN. The training he received included instruction from al Qaeda's affiliate there on how to fire weapons, a U.S. official said, citing information French intelligence provided to the United States.

In addition to northern France, other parts of the country have also been under scrutiny.

More than 80,000 police were deployed nationwide Thursday, France's interior minister said.

Earlier Thursday, a gunman -- dressed in black and wearing what appeared to be a bulletproof vest, just like those who attacked the Charlie Hebdo offices -- shot and killed a female police officer in the Paris suburb of Montrouge. A municipal official was seriously wounded in that attack, France's interior minister said. One person was arrested, Paris Deputy Mayor Patrick Klugman said, though it's not known whether the shooter is still at large.

Authorities have called that a terror attack, but they haven't connected it to Wednesday's slaying of 12 at the satirical magazine's Paris headquarters.

Latest updates at 10:15 p.m. ET

• Investigators found empty containers and gasoline inside a car driven by the suspects in the Charlie Hebdo attack, according to U.S. and Western officials who say they received information from French intelligence about the vehicle. The suspects may have intended to use the items to make rudimentary explosives such as Molotov cocktails, the officials told CNN's Pamela Brown, Barbara Starr and Deborah Feyerick.

• The head of Britain's MI5 security service told an audience in London that his agency was offering French intelligence officials its "full support" as France responds to Wednesday's terror attack in Paris.

• Paris' iconic Eiffel Tower went dark Thursday night in remembrance of the victims of Wednesday's attack.

• In the United States, the Paris Las Vegas resort said it also planned to dim the lights on its half-sized replica of the tower Thursday night. "We stand with Paris in mourning the victims of the Charlie Hebdo attack," a spokeswoman for the hotel said.

Charlie Hebdo to publish next Wednesday

While its business is satire, Charlie Hebdo has been the subject of serious venom.

That includes its publication of cartoons lampooning the Muslim prophet, Mohammed, which some found very offensive.

Satirical magazine is no stranger to controversy

The magazine's offices were fire-bombed after that in 2011, on the same day the magazine was due to release an issue with a cover that appeared to poke fun at Islamic law.

It was attacked again Wednesday, when two masked men entered its offices not far from the famed Notre Dame Cathedral and the Place de la Bastille.

Map: Charlie Hebdo HQ, Paris

On their way into the building, they asked exactly where the offices were. The men reportedly spoke fluent French with no accent.

They barged in on the magazine's staff, while they were gathered for a lunchtime editorial meeting. The gunmen separated the men from the women and called out the names of cartoonists they intended to kill, said Dr. Gerald Kierzek, a physician who treated wounded patients and spoke with survivors.

The shooting was not a random spray of bullets, but more of a precision execution, he said.

The two said they were avenging the Prophet Mohammed and shouted "Allahu akbar," which translates to "God is great," Paris Prosecutor Francois Molins said.

Cell phone cameras caught the two gunmen as they ran back out of the building, still firing. One of them ran up to a wounded police officer lying on a sidewalk and shot him point-blank.

It was the deadliest attack in Europe since July 2011, when Anders Behring Brevik killed 77 people in attacks on government buildings in Oslo, Norway, and at a youth camp on the island of Utoya.

But it won't stop Charlie Hebdo. Pelloux told CNN affiliate BFMTV that thousands of copies of the magazine will be published next Wednesday. Proceeds from the issue will go to victims' families, France's Le Monde newspaper reported.

'It was their only mistake'

Authorities have released few details on why they've zeroed in on the Kouachi brothers. But they have pointed to one key clue found inside a getaway car the gunmen apparently used: Said Kouachi's identification card. It was discovered by investigators as they combed the vehicle for clues after impounding it.

"It was their only mistake," said Dominique Rizet, BFMTV's police and justice consultant, reporting that discovering the ID had helped French investigators

Other evidence also points to the brothers' involvement, according to U.S. officials briefed by French intelligence.

Police hunting for the Kouachi brothers have searched residences in a number of towns, Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said.

Who are the suspects?

An ISIS radio broadcast Thursday praised the attackers, calling them "brave jihadists." There was no mention of a claim of responsibility for the attack.

Officials were running the brothers' names through databases to look for connections with ISIS and al Qaeda.

A third suspect, 18-year-old Hamyd Mourad, turned himself in to police, a source close to the case told the AFP news agency. In French media and on social media, classmates of Mourad, who is in his final year of high school, said he was with them at school at the time of the attack.

Cazeneuve said that nine people overall have been detained in connection with the Charlie Hebdo attack.

But the Kouachi brothers remain on the run.

'Parisians will not be afraid'

The victims' names were splashed Thursday across newspapers as heroes for freedom of expression. "Liberty assassinated." "We are all Charlie Hebdo," the headlines blared.

They included two police officers, Stephane Charbonnier -- a cartoonist and the magazine's editor, known as "Charb" -- and three other well-known cartoonists known by the pen names Cabu, Wolinski and Tignous. Autopsies on the victims were underway Thursday, Cazeneuve said.

Flags flew at half-staff on public buildings and events were canceled Thursday, a national day of mourning. Crowds gathered in the rain in Paris in the victims' honor, many holding up media credentials and broke into applause as the silence ended. The bells of Notre Dame Cathedral tolled across the city.

"I can't remember such a day since 9/11," said Klugman, Paris' deputy mayor. "The country really is in a kind of shutdown in respect and memory of the 12 people killed."

The day earlier, thousands poured into streets in hordes in a show of solidarity, holding up pens and chanting, "We are Charlie!" Similar demonstrations took place in cities in addition to Paris, including Rome,

On Thursday, demonstrators once again vowed that nothing would silence them.

Standing in Paris' Place de la Republique, Lesley Martin sounded defiant as she waved an "I am Charlie" sign.

"I am not afraid," she said. "Tonight I'm here and, if tomorrow I have to be here, I don't care if anybody comes and just wants to do something really bad here. I'm not afraid to die."

Pakistan: Couple stoned to death for adultery after Muslim cleric issues fatwa

The advocates of stoning can and do claim that they are simply implementing Islamic law. The caliph Umar, one of Muhammad’s closest companions, maintained that the punishment of stoning for adultery (this story doesn’t specify the method of punishment, but the outcome of the punishment is the same in any case) was originally in the Qur’an:

‘Umar said, “I am afraid that after a long time has passed, people may say, “We do not find the Verses of the Rajam (stoning to death) in the Holy Book,” and consequently they may go astray by leaving an obligation that Allah has revealed. Lo! I confirm that the penalty of Rajam be inflicted on him who commits illegal sexual intercourse, if he is already married and the crime is proved by witnesses or pregnancy or confession.” Sufyan added, “I have memorized this narration in this way.” ‘Umar added, “Surely Allah’s Apostle carried out the penalty of Rajam, and so did we after him.” (Bukhari, vol. 8, bk. 82, no. 816)

“Allah’s Apostle” is, of course, Muhammad, who did indeed carry out stonings. Here is the hadith in which he challenges the rabbis about stoning, and in which there is amidst the barbarism and brutality a final act of love and compassion:

The Jews came to Allah’s Apostle and told him that a man and a woman from amongst them had committed illegal sexual intercourse. Allah’s Apostle said to them, “What do you find in the Torah (old Testament) about the legal punishment of Ar-Rajm (stoning)?” They replied, (But) we announce their crime and lash them.” Abdullah bin Salam said, “You are telling a lie; Torah contains the order of Rajm.” They brought and opened the Torah and one of them solaced his hand on the Verse of Rajm and read the verses preceding and following it. Abdullah bin Salam said to him, “Lift your hand.” When he lifted his hand, the Verse of Rajm was written there. They said, “Muhammad has told the truth; the Torah has the Verse of Rajm. The Prophet then gave the order that both of them should be stoned to death. (‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar said, “I saw the man leaning over the woman to shelter her from the stones.” (Bukhari, vol. 4, bk. 56, no. 829)

Even the monkeys practiced stoning, according to another hadith:

During the pre-lslamic period of ignorance I saw a she-monkey surrounded by a number of monkeys. They were all stoning it, because it had committed illegal sexual intercourse. I too, stoned it along with them. (Bukhari, vol. 5, bk. 58, no. 188)

Muhammad’s example is, of course, normative for Islamic behavior, since “verily in the messenger of Allah ye have a good example for him who looketh unto Allah and the Last Day, and remembereth Allah much” (Qur’an 33:21).

“Couple stoned to death in Loralai village,” by Saleem Shahid for Dawn, February 17 (thanks to all who sent this in):

QUETTA: A man and a woman were stoned to death in a village in Loralai district on Sunday after a cleric issued a fatwa against them, sources said.

A Levies Force official, Abdul Latif Jogezai, said the incident took place in Manzkai village early in the morning. “The people of the village stoned to death the man and the woman who were not married to each other. Rather, they were married to other people,” he said. He said the two were killed on suspicion of having illicit relations. No funeral prayers were offered for them.

The slain man, Daraz Khan, was buried in Katoti area and the woman in her village.

After hearing about the incident, personnel of the Levies Force reached Manzkai village and arrested the cleric who had issued the fatwa and six of the men who stoned the couple to death, Mr Jogezai said.

He said a case had been registered against the people of the village. Most of the residents fled from the village to avoid arrest, he added.

Malaysia: Muslim group calls for action against politician for criticizing anti-Valentine's Day fatwa

Under Sharia, no dissenting voices are allowed. This is the sinister agenda behind “Islamophobia” campaigns in the West: to stigmatize and rule out of acceptable discourse even the slightest critical word about Sharia and even about jihad terror. With the willing compliance of the mainstream media, this campaign is well on its way to attaining its goals of silencing all criticism of Islam.

“Tony Pua Ticked Off For Chiding Fatwa On Valentine’s Day,” from Bernama, February 18 (thanks to Twostellas):

SHAH ALAM, Feb 18 (Bernama)

Selangor Perkasa has called for action to be taken against Selangor DAP chairman Tony Pua for allegedly chiding the National Fatwa Council’s edict forbidding Muslims from celebrating the Valentine’s Day, recently.

Its president, Abu Bakar Yahya said Pua’s remarks posted on his blog and Facebook were provocative as they could enrage Muslims.

“We cannot remain silent as Pua has insulted Muslims and his remarks might undermine harmony,” he told reporters after lodging a police report against Pua over the remarks at the Shah Alam police headquarters here today.

Abu Bakar said Pua not only rebuked the council for declaring the Valentine’s Day as haram (forbidden) but also ridiculed the Islamic Development Department.

“We hope Pua will not interfere in Islamic matters as we should respect each other religion,” he added.

Connecticut: Muslim to be sentenced for sending recruits to jihad terror training camps

Despite the fact that Babar Ahmad has been found guilty, he has his supporters people who believe that any Muslim accused of anything by the federal government must be the victim of “racism,” “bigotry” and “Islamophobia.” Such charges form a swift one-two punch with violent jihad attacks, making it almost impossible to fight back by stigmatizing those who do so.

“Feds want man convicted in failed 2001 shoe bomb plot to testify in Conn. terrorism case,” from the Associated Press, February 17:

NEW HAVEN, Conn.

Federal prosecutors want a man convicted in a failed 2001 shoe bomb plot to bring down an airplane to testify at the sentencing of two British citizens who pleaded guilty in Connecticut to supporting terrorists through websites.

The testimony reflects an effort by prosecutors to show that Babar Ahmad, one of the two men facing sentencing in Connecticut, had an active role in sending recruits to terrorism training camps beyond appealing for support on the websites.

Prosecutors say the witness is expected to testify that Ahmad sent him to Afghanistan to train for violent jihad and that he ultimately moved on from Ahmad and came under the mentorship and training of al-Qaida members who prepared him for the shoe bomb plot. The man also is expected to testify that he saw nearly two dozen others that Ahmad sent from the United Kingdom to train in Afghanistan, and he would describe camping trips and training exercises that Ahmad organized in England to groom recruits for violent jihad abroad, prosecutors said.

“Ahmad’s conduct went beyond cyberspace and included real world effects and consequences flowing from the criminal activity, regardless of the media used to plan, coordinate and execute some of the conduct,” prosecutors wrote in court papers last week, citing his efforts to send people to Afghanistan to train for violent jihad and emails discussing night vision goggles and safe routes into Afghanistan.

Ahmad’s attorneys say they’ll respond in court objecting to the request to have the man testify by a videotaped deposition.

Prosecutors didn’t name the man they want to testify, but his description matches that of Saajid Badat, a British citizen whose videotaped testimony was shown at the 2012 New York City trial of a man convicted in a foiled plot to attack the New York City subway system in 2009. A spokesman for the prosecutors declined to comment to The Associated Press on the witness’s identity.

Badat was convicted in London in a plot to down an American Airlines flight from Paris to Miami with explosives hidden in his shoes. He said at that trial that he refused a request to testify in person in the U.S. because he remains under indictment in Boston on charges he conspired with failed shoe bomber Richard Reid and has been told he’d be arrested if he set foot in the United States.

Prosecutors said the man they want to testify at Ahmad’s sentencing had testified by videotape at the trial for the foiled subway plot, was indicted in Massachusetts on charges related to the shoe bomb plot, refuses to testify in the U.S. and expects to be arrested upon arrival in the country.

Reid was caught aboard a plane with explosives; Badat backed out.

Badat was sentenced to 13 years in prison. But British authorities later said that in 2009, a judge secretly reduced his sentence to 11 years to reward him for his cooperation in terror investigations.

Ahmad and Syed Talha Ahsan pleaded guilty in December to terrorism charges. Ahmad admitted he sought recruits, cash and equipment such as gas masks for the Taliban regime in Afghanistan through the websites.

The two men, who were living in Britain at the time, faced charges in Connecticut because authorities said they used an Internet service provider in the state to run one of the websites.

A prosecutor said Ahsan traveled to Afghanistan with Ahmad’s assistance to fight and attend a training camp run by al-Qaida, but Ahsan didn’t admit that.

The cooperating witness, believed to be Badat, is expected to testify that Ahmad originally recruited and radicalized him before sending him to the camp in Afghanistan. He said he took an explosives training class with Ahsan and stayed at a safe house in Kandahar in January 2001 during which Osama bin Laden visited the location multiple times, prosecutors said….

Muslim group prayers for earthquake at Sochi Olympics

A militant Islamist group has urged followers to pray for an earthquake in Sochi during the Winter Olympics to avenge Muslims who died there fighting "Russian infidels".

The appeal was made by a local branch of the Caucasus Emirate, a group which is waging an insurgency for an Islamist state in Russia's North Caucasus and called on supporters last year to attack the Games.

"All who are able to read this letter can supplicate that the Almighty destroys the land in Sochi with an earthquake, and makes the infidels 'drunk of water' before Hell and drown in a flood!," said the appeal posted online on Monday.

"The Games of the atheists and pagans! The pigs are so arrogant that they decided to host the Games on the ground where our ancestors shed their blood to defend Islam and Muslims. Even the blind can see it!"

Russian President Vladimir Putin, who waged a war in Chechnya to try to rein in separatists in the North Caucasus, has staked his personal and political prestige on the Games.

But some of the events are being held in territory that was the homeland of ethnic Circassians until they were expelled in the 19th century.

Islamist leaders say this amounts to performing "Satanic dances" on the graves of Muslims killed fighting Russian forces and one, Caucasus Emirate leader Doku Umarov, urged followers last year to prevent the Games going ahead.

"We know how the Russian infidels - those who we have been fighting for centuries in the Caucasus - have become arrogant and decided to hold the Satanic Games on the ground of the companions who brought Islam," said the new appeal, issued by the Ingushetia media branch of the Caucasus Emirate.

"May Allah give the infidels in Sochi the last earthquake of their lives," it said.

Ingushetia lies about 650 km (400 miles) by road from Sochi across the Caucasus mountains.

Egypt: U.S. Embassy official in contact with Muslim Brotherhood arrested

Barack Obama has been an indefatigable and unstinting supporter of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, as well as of its proxies in the U.S. Thus it is not surprising that U.S. Embassy employees in Cairo would be Brotherhood allies as well. Obama was the target of vociferous criticism during the anti-Brotherhood demonstrations last summer for his uncritical support of the Brotherhood.

“US Embassy confirms one of its local employees detained,” by Rabab Fathy for Youm7 via the Cairo Post, February 11 (thanks to Joyce):

CAIRO: National Security arrested a local employee on Jan. 25 who works for the U.S. embassy in Cairo, the embassy confirmed Tuesday.

“We confirm that one of our local employees was arrested on Jan. 25. According to our information, there are no charges against him so far,” said Mofid al-Deek, Media Attaché and the spokesperson of the U.S. embassy in Cairo.

Deek said the embassy is communicating with the Egyptian government to understand the reason for the employee’s detention.

A security source reported National Security arrested Ahmed A., a U.S embassy employee in charge of the political Islam file. The source added that the employee was in constant contact with Khairat el-Shater, First Deputy of the General Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood, when the group ruled the country.

The suspect was arrested while participating with others in marches and riots in Giza Governorate. He is being investigated by the National Security Agency to determine the dimensions of his activity.

UK: Muslim gets three years prison dawah for jihad murder plot against Prince Harry

Ashraf Islam is no different from Mujaahid Abu Hamza and Ismail ibn Abdullah, who murdered British soldier Lee Rigby on a London street. The only differences are that Ashraf Islam’s target was higher profile, and that he failed. But both were jihad attempts which the jihadis justified by referring to the alleged atrocities of the British Armed Forces — as all jihads must in the absence of a caliph be justified as defensive, no matter how far-fetched that may be.
“Convicted criminal who plotted to kill Prince Harry jailed for three years,” from The Guardian, February 10 (thanks to Renko):
A convicted criminal who plotted to kill Prince Harry has been jailed.
Ashraf Islam, 31, said he had a “moral right to judge” the royal because he disagreed with the work of the British Armed Forces, of which Prince Harry is a member.
The judge at Isleworth Crown Court in London described Islam’s plot as “vague and unlikely to succeed”, but said he presented a risk to the public.
Islam, of no fixed address but who had been living in west London, was handed a three-year jail term.
Islam pleaded guilty to making a threat to kill Prince Harry, at Uxbridge Magistrates Court in May last year.
He had earlier handed himself in to police and volunteered the information about the plot, defence counsel Roxanne Morrell said.
Judge Richard McGregor-Johnson, the recorder for the royal borough of Kensington and Chelsea, said he would not go over details of Islam’s plot.
But he told the court during the brief hearing: “This was not a threat made in isolation.
“The examination of your computer revealed you conducted research on his (Prince Harry’s) whereabouts and intentions.
“You had given the matter considerable thought.”
He added: “The reason behind that is that you thought he and other serving officers had some moral guilt, and you thought you had a moral right to judge.
“I accept that there is nothing here that could be described as professional plans as to your expressed intentions.
“Your plan was vague and unlikely to succeed.”
But the judge said police would have intervened had Islam, who has previous convictions for dishonesty and for involvement in an attempted robbery, attempted to carry out his plan.
The judge said he considered a longer sentence, but said it would have been deemed “excessive”….
It certainly would have been at a time when Great Britain is doing everything it can to appease Islamic supremacists. Britain’s new masters might have found a longer sentence “Islamophobic.”

Norway: Muslim gets four months for offer to protect Jews as soon as I pass my hunting test and get myself an AK-47

This is the same charming fellow who said after the Boston Marathon jihad bombing: “To hell with Boston and the U.S., and may Allah destroy America.” It is no wonder that with people like Ubaydullah Hussain around that Jews are leaving Norway. But not to worry: he works as a soccer referee — he must be a moderate.
“Norway’s Islamist referee convicted of hate speech,” from The Local, February 7 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):
A Norwegian Islamist has been found guilty of committing hate speech agains Jews in the country, and of sending threatening emails to journalists.
Ubaydullah Hussain was sentenced on Friday to 120 days in prison, although as 60 of the days are in the form of a suspended sentence and he has already served 53 days in custody, he will not have serve any additional days in prison.
“I am relieved that it was not imprisonment,” the 28-year-old told VG after the verdict was read. “I’m a little disappointed that I was convicted on four of five counts, but I am relieved that I was acquitted of the last.”
When Jewish people in Oslo demanded police protection in 2012, citing a rise in antisemitism in the country, Hussain made threatening comments on Facebook.
“I will give them protection, inshallah, just as soon as I pass my hunting test and get myself an AK-47,” he wrote, according to the indictment.
He also sent a threatening email to Nina Johnsrud, a journalist at Dagsavisen newspaper after she wrote an article about Islamists in the country.
“This article has been noted by both known and unknown brothers,” he wrote. “and it has not been well received. That you pry into people’s private lives has set minds ablaze. And you shouldn’t be surprised if someone or something crops up in your private life too — with words or actions, I don’t know.”
“This is not a threat,” he added. “Just a friendly warning.”
Hussain was acquitted, however, of hate speech against the Somali lesbian activist Amal Aden, who he said on Facebook should have been stoned to death for her homosexuality.
On Tuesday, the Norwegian Football Association (NFF) turned down Hussain’s application to resume work as a referee, arguing that his controversial statements meant that women, homosexual or Jewish players could not be assured of his impartiality.

Malaysia: Muslim group offers reward to anyone who can slap politician whom they say insulted Islam

They say she insulted Islam, and yet they aren’t calling for her death, despite the death penalty for blasphemy taught by all the major schools of Islamic jurisprudence. They must be moderates. “Islamic NGO offers reward for slapping MP Teresa Kok over controversial ‘Onederful Malaysia’ video,” from Australia Network News, February 10:
A Malaysian Islamic NGO has offered a $US360 reward for anyone who slaps an opposition MP who posted a controversial Chinese New Year video on YouTube.
Teresa Kok, national vice-chair of the Democratic Action Party, has been accused of insulting Malays and Islam in her ‘Onderful Malaysia’ video.
Local media says up to 300 police reports have been lodged against the video, a play on the government’s ’1Malaysia’ campaign, which uses a talk show setting to poke fun at various national issues.
Ms Kok has told Asia Pacific the video is a satirical attack on government issues, and the race controversy is being used by the governing UMNO party to distract from that.

National Council of Canadian Muslims directors praised Muslim Brotherhood founder, vowed to implement his doctrine in Canada

Now the National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) is suing the Canadian Prime Minister for daring to suggest they have ties to Hamas, which styles itself “the Muslim Brotherhood for Palestine.”

“Current NCCM / CAIR-CAN Director Khadija Haffajee was on the Editorial advisory board of a magazine hailing the Muslim Brotherhood founder Hassan al-Banna as ‘a True Guide,’” from Point de Bascule, February 7 (thanks to Marc):

Hassan al-Banna was described as a role model by three senior directors of the NCCM / CAIR-CAN

When CAIR-CAN became the National Council of Canadian Muslims, it presented itself as “a leading voice that enriches Canadian society through Muslim civic engagement and the promotion of human rights.”

This description is misleading given the fact that many of the leaders of the NCCM / CAIR-CAN (past and present) have collaborated with organizations in Canada and abroad whose track records are incompatible with human rights. Although the NCCM / CAIR-CAN Executive Director Ihsaan Gardee claimed in a CBC interview that his organization has never had any relationship with the Washington-based Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), documents issued by his own organization prove otherwise.

In the context of the NCCM’s recent defamation suit against the PMO for having linked the NCCM to Hamas, discussing the relationship between Washington-based CAIR and the NCCM / CAIR-CAN is all the more relevant given the fact that in a 2009 American case, a federal judge concluded that “The [U.S.] government has produced ample evidence to establish the associations of CAIR, ISNA [and other organizations] with Hamas.”

The NCCM / CAIR-CAN’s claim that it is committed to human rights can also be challenged by looking at the ideologues endorsed by the leaders of this organization over the years. Given the fact that important leaders of the NCCM / CAIR-CAN have openly endorsed ideologues whose goal is to establish a totalitarian society based on sharia, this organization must be considered a threat to human rights and definitely not a source of enrichment for Canadian society.

One such totalitarian ideologue who has been endorsed by prominent NCCM / CAIR-CAN directors is Hassan al-Banna, the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood. Al-Banna advocated the establishment of a society based on sharia and in his essay To what do we invite humanity?, he praised Hitler as a role model for Muslims looking for “success, influence and fortune.” As a matter of fact, when the New York Times announced Hassan al-Banna’s death in 1949, it highlighted that his organization, the Muslim Brotherhood, had become a movement “with mystic and fascist overtones.”

Hassan al-Banna was openly endorsed by at least three senior NCCM / CAIR-CAN directors. In 1999, before the incorporation of CAIR-CAN, current NCCM director Khadija Haffajee was on the Editorial advisory board of Islamic Horizons when the magazine hailed Hassan al-Banna as “a True Guide.”

In 2004, while he was on CAIR-CAN’s Board, Jamal Badawi described al-Banna as “most inspirational.” Badawi added that “More than any other individual he [al-Banna] has epitomised twentieth century Islamic thought and ideology.”

In 2012, while he was a CAIR-CAN director, Wael Haddara was also the president of the Muslim Association of Canada (MAC). MAC’s website proclaimed back then that “MAC’s [...] modern roots can be traced to the Islamic revival of the early twentieth century, culminating in the movement of the Muslim Brotherhood. […] MAC adopts and strives to implement Islam […] as understood in its contemporary context by the late Imam, Hassan Albanna, the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood. MAC regards this ideology as the best representation of Islam as delivered by Prophet Muhammad.” The same mission statement was already posted on MAC’s website in 2005 when Jamal Badawi and Wael Haddara were both MAC directors and CAIR-CAN directors.

According to the Global Muslim Brotherhood Daily Watch, “The Muslim Association of Canada (MAC) appears to be one of the only organizations in the world that has acknowledged its ties to the Muslim Brotherhood.”

Wael Haddara resigned his position on CAIR-CAN’s Board of Directors in April 2012. On December 12, 2012, MAC issued a press release announcing Haddara’s resignation as president of the organization for “personal reasons.” On December 28, 2012, Wael Haddara was identified in an official United Nations document as a member of the Egyptian delegation at the UN. He had become a close advisor to now deposed Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood President Mohamed Morsi. Haddara had just been promoted from the Muslim Brotherhood infrastructure in Canada to the original one in Egypt. This was the logical outcome of Wael Haddara’s involvement with CAIR-CAN and the Muslim Association of Canada.

Khadija Haffajee

CAIR-CAN was incorporated in 2000. When Khadija Haffajee joined its Board of Directors (either in 2000 or 2001), she was already on the Majlis al-Shura of the Islamic Society of North America, ISNA’s decision-making body. Khadija Haffajee was first elected as an ISNA’s administrator in 1997 and re-elected in 2001 and 2004. As a member of ISNA’s leadership, she was on the Editorial advisory Board of Islamic Horizons. ISNA refers to its own publication as “ISNA’s flagship bi-monthly magazine.”

Khadija Haffajee and another current NCCM director, Shahina Siddiqui, have presented their autobiographies in a book entitled Muslim Women Activists in North America: Speaking for Ourselves. It was edited by Katherine Bullock and released in 2005. As this article is being published, the portion of the book concerning Haffajee is still available on Google Books.

ISNA was established in 1982 by the Muslim Brotherhood leadership in North America in order to mobilize and radicalize Muslims outside of college and university campuses. The Muslim Students Association (MSA) had already been established in 1963 to target Muslim students. In the 2009 American legal case referred to previously, the judge remarked that a Muslim Brotherhood document produced as Exhibit 3-64 by the U.S. government “further ties ISNA to the Muslim Brotherhood by listing it as an ‘apparatus’ of the Brotherhood.”

ISNA is number 1 and MSA number 2 in a listing of 29 organizations affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood network in North America that was added to an internal memorandum written by an MB leader in 1991. In this memorandum, the goal pursued by the Muslim Brotherhood in North America is clearly presented:

POINT 4 The Ikhwan (Muslim Brotherhood) must understand that their work in America is a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and “sabotaging” its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God’s religion is made victorious over all other religions… It is a Muslim’s destiny to perform Jihad and work wherever he is and wherever he lands until the final hour comes.”

This memorandum was made public after it was seized by police and produced for evidentiary purposes in a 2008 trial that led to the conviction of all accused in a terror financing case. This excerpt was also quoted in the 2009 American legal case referred to earlier.

In July 2013, the ISNA Development Foundation’s charitable status was revoked by the Canada Revenue Agency because it provided tax receipts for donations made to a non-status organization that was funding a jihadist organization in India. At the time, ISNA’s leaders claimed that “There has been no links of authority or responsibility between the United States and Canadian organizations for a few decades, despite the similarity of names.” When the charity status revocation occurred in July 2013, at least two administrators of ISNA-Canada (Mohamed Bekkari and Khalid Tarabain) were on the U.S.-based ISNA’s Board (ISNA’s Board in June 2013 – ISNA’s Board in August 2013).

Hassan al-Banna’s 50-point Manifesto

One of the articles praising Hassan al-Banna in the March-April 1999 edition of Islamic Horizons highlighted an important proposal of his totalitarian program: getting rid of all political parties and replacing them by a one-party state (“He [al-Banna] called for mediation between [political] parties and even for their dissolution so they could emerge as a single entity serving according to the guidance of Islam.”)

This one-party state proposal is the first one in Hassan al-Banna’s 50-point Manifesto. According to Ikhwanweb, the Muslim Brotherhood’s website, the Manifesto was part of a letter sent by Hassan al-Banna to many Muslim leaders in 1947, including the king and the prime minister of Egypt. It contains fifty proposals for a systematic implementation of sharia. They are grouped in three categories (1. Political, judicial and administrative; 2. Social and educational; 3. Economic). The 50-point Manifesto is available on Point de Bascule.

Here are some of the proposals advocated by Hassan al-Banna and those who revere him as their “True Guide”:…

UK: Devout Muslim jailed for lurid and unwelcome advances to women walking alone

The devout Muslim Mohamed Jamal Miah almost certainly didn’t think that his lurid, unwelcome and terrifying advances were in any conflict with his devoutness in Islam, because his Islamic culture had already taught him that women who dressed like Western women and ventured out unaccompanied were whores, and Infidels on top of that, thus having no rights he was bound to respect.

Given the likelihood — indeed, the virtual certainty — that is behavior is a manifestation of his Islamic beliefs and assumptions, it is deeply and viciously (even greasily) Islamophobic for the British authorities to send him to jail. It conflicts with their policy of nonstop accommodation of Islam and the barring of critics of jihad terror and Sharia oppression from entering the country. Free Mohamed Jamal Miah! Make him Prime Minister! Stop the Islamophobia!

“Indian restaurant worker jailed for targeting women walking alone in Exeter,” from the Exeter Express and Echo, February 7 (thanks to Halal Pork Shop):

A FORMER employee at a popular Indian restaurant in Exeter has been jailed for targeting females walking alone in the city.

Mohamed Jamal Miah, 34, was convicted of one sexual assault and two common assaults after his lurid and unwelcome advances left his three victims terrified.

Magistrates told him that custody was the only option and he was given 16 weeks in prison after the court heard victim impact statements from all three woman who said Miah’s actions had left them scared to go out alone.

Described as a ‘devout Muslim,’ Miah had been living and working at the Argee Bhajee restaurant in Buddle Lane, St Thomas, at the time of the offences.

The court heard he had recently moved to the city from Coventry to Exeter but had struggled to adjust to British culture in the five years since he arrived in the UK.

Sentencing him at Exeter Magistrates Court, the bench chairman told him: “There were three separate lone victims. They were female victims and we have heard from their victim statements that the effect on this is all very similar. There was very limited physical effect but the emotional and mental effect on them is longer lasting and that has greatly influenced our view on these offences.

“One offence even occurred when you were on your way to court to answer a charge of assault. Throughout he has not accepted the seriousness of this on his victims. He is unwilling or unable to explain his behaviour.

“Whilst the offences taken in isolation may not result in custody, taken collectively with the pattern of behaviour exhibited by over that short period, these three offences are so serious only a custodial sentence is appropriate or right.”

The first incident that came to the police’s attention took place at around 4.15pm on November 12 on Dunsford Hill .

Prosecuting Lyndsay Baker said: “The victim saw the defendant stood in front of her on the pavement and got to an “uncomfortably close distance.”

“She said hi, believing he may be asking for directions but the defendant said in an aggressive manner ‘you come home with me.’

“He then grabbed hold of her arm and said it again. She believed he was going to force her to go home. The defendant then said ‘you are a very beautiful lady and asked if she had a boyfriend. She responded and said ‘no, I am going home with my husband’ and tried to walk away. He grabbed her shoulder and said ‘no you are coming home with me.’ She managed to struggle away and leave the defendant. When she got home she called the police.”

The second incident on November 26 happened as the defendant was on his way to court to answer charges over the first offence.

The victim was walking to Exeter College along Cowick Street towards Exe Bridges. She first noticed the defendant behind her near St Thomas railway bridge. He started asking her questions and when asked if she had a boyfriend she replied yes. He then suggested they go out shopping or to dinner.

“The victim said she was feeling uncomfortable with the situation and as they neared Bonhay Road he leaned in to kiss her,” said Ms Baker. “She managed to resist but his lower arm made contact with left arm and shoulder. At which point she stood still in front of the defendant and he walked away.

“She was scared and panicked and called her mother who immediately notified the police.”

The third offence happened on November 10 at around 4pm. The 31-year-old victim was taking her dog for a walk along the River Exe. He grabbed her biceps and leaned in to kiss her.

“Although she tried to avoid contact his lips touched the corner of her mouth,” said Ms Baker.

She pushed him away but he grabbed her arm again and started saying “I really like you.” She pushed him away with more force and told him to leave her alone. At this point he finally backed away.

“Only when she discussed the incident with friends did she realise the seriousness of it and she reported it to police on 15 December.

Richard Parkhouse, defending, said: “His marriage ended and he left Coventry and had become socially isolated.

“He was struggling to adjust to British Culture and understanding the relationships between men and women.

“He is a devout Muslim and has lost his good character at the age of 34. This is stigma attached to him for the rest of his life.

“He was at the time employed and had accommodation with his employment. But he has lost this as well.

“He was a man of previous good character.”

Miah will also be on the sexual offences register for seven years.

Honor killing in India: Muslim family beheads daughter's boyfriend

The couple had fled in order to get married, but the girl’s family lured them back.

This is an Islamic phenomenon, and can only be stopped if it is confronted as such. Muslims commit 91 percent of honor killings worldwide. A manual of Islamic law certified as a reliable guide to Sunni orthodoxy by Al-Azhar University, the most respected authority in Sunni Islam, says that “retaliation is obligatory against anyone who kills a human being purely intentionally and without right.” However, “not subject to retaliation” is “a father or mother (or their fathers or mothers) for killing their offspring, or offspring’s offspring.” (‘Umdat al-Salik o1.1-2). In other words, someone who kills his child incurs no legal penalty under Islamic law.

The Palestinian Authority gives pardons or suspended sentences for honor murders. Iraqi women have asked for tougher sentences for Islamic honor murderers, who get off lightly now. Syria in 2009 scrapped a law limiting the length of sentences for honor killings, but “the new law says a man can still benefit from extenuating circumstances in crimes of passion or honour ‘provided he serves a prison term of no less than two years in the case of killing.’” And in 2003 the Jordanian Parliament voted down on Islamic grounds a provision designed to stiffen penalties for honor killings. Al-Jazeera reported that “Islamists and conservatives said the laws violated religious traditions and would destroy families and values.”

“Bulandshahr: Honor killing takes life of Muslim boy,” by Urvashi Singhal for Parda Phash, February 6 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):

Bulandshahr: Despite the laws passed by the government, cases of honor killing are not ready to stop in the country. Every now and then, we hear 2-3 cases related to honor killing. As per reports, another incident has been reported from Bulandshahr where a Muslim boy was killed by the family members of a Muslim girl because the two of them were in love with each other. Also, the girl has gone missing.

Reports suggest that the girl had fled with the boy in order to get married because they knew that their family members would never accept their relation. However, when the girl’s parents came to know about it, they contacted their daughter and asked her to come back with the boy.

The parents comforted their daughter by saying that once she is back, they would let her marry the boy she was in love with. However, they defied her trust by killing the boy at the time of marriage.

The boy was beheaded by the members of the girl’s family. As of now, the police is interrogating into the matter.

India: Muslim attempted jihad mass murder attack on mosque because tourists were entering it in skimpy clothes

Skimpy-clothed’ tourists triggered Jama Masjid attack,” by Vijay V Singh for TNN, February 7 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):
MUMBAI: Indian Mujahideen (IM) terrorist Yasin Bhatkal organized the attack on Delhi’s Jama Masjid in 2010 as he was upset with tourists entering the mosque in skimpy clothes. This is what Yasin told the National Investigation Agency (NIA) following his arrest from the India-Nepal border last year.
Yasin had not discussed the plan with IM chief Riyaz Bhatkal before the attack, the NIA interrogation report to the Centre said.
Two terrorists on a bike opened shot at tourists at Jama Masjid on September 19, 2010, and Yasin parked an explosive-laden car near the mosque to ensure maximum damage. But the timer on the bomb failed, saving hundreds of lives. Two Taiwanese tourists were injured in the firing.
IM founder Riyaz Bhatkal had apparently instructed Yasin to target prominent places in Delhi on the anniversary of Batla House encounter and also sent terror operatives including Waqqas and Asadullah Akhtar alias Tabrez to help Yasin.
Yasin arranged a rented accommodation for the two at Shastri Park in Delhi and himself lived at Shaheen Bagh. He told NIA that he along with an accomplice Qaiser alias Chhotoo visited Jama Masjid on July 15, 2009 and was incensed to find some Russian woman tourists dancing in “objectionable clothes” in the rain
inside the mosque. They were “reduced to tears” by the scene, Yasin claimed, adding he hatched the Jama Masjid attack “to teach the tourists a lesson”.
Yasin procured weapons from Delhi and bought 20 kg potassium nitrate and other chemicals from Anand Parbat area; with the chemicals, he made the bombs at his hideout, he told investigators. Yasin stole a bike from Gandhi Nagar to be used by Waqqas and Tabrez and also picked up a Maruti car from the same area. He tried to steal another car but dropped the plan after its alarm went off, he told NIA.
Yasin and his associates decided to target Gate 3 of Jama Masjid as most tourists entered from there. Accordingly, he parked the bomb-laden car near the gate and walked away towards Lal Qila bus stand where his accomplice Irshad waited for him in a car, NIA officers said, adding they drove back to Shaheen Bagh. The two shooters also returned to their hideout after the firing. The two hung a white handkerchief outside their home to indicate to Yasin who visited the spot the next day that the operation was successful.
It was only three days later that Yasin informed Riyaz about the attack and the IM founder apparently got angry with him for targeting a Muslim-dominated area after keeping him in dark.

Jordan: Court reduces sentence of Muslim who murdered his daughter in honor killing

Here we go again. I have posted this information many times before and will keep on posting it every time there is another honor killing, if only to leave a record, for as long as this site remains up, of the cravenness of the mainstream media in never reporting on the Islamic justification for honor killings accurately, and thereby enabling the practice to continue.

“Jordanian gets reduced sentence for ‘honor killing,’” from AFP, February 6 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):

AMMAN – A Jordanian court has reduced the sentence of a man who killed his daughter because she left home without her husband’s knowledge from death to 10 years in jail, an official said Thursday.

“On January 29, the court initially condemned the man to death but gave him a reduced jail sentence after the family dropped all legal claims against him,” the judicial official told AFP.

“He has confessed to shooting and killing his daughter, who was in her late 20'
s, because she left her house for several days without her husband’s knowledge.”

He said the crime took place on November 13, 2012 in Ruseifeh, east of the capital Amman.

“The convict, who is in his 50's, has also confessed that he killed the woman to cleanse the family’s honor,” the official added.

Murder is punishable by death in Jordan, but in so-called “honor killings” courts usually commute or reduce sentences if the victim’s family requests leniency.

Between 15 and 20 women are murdered in honor killings in Jordan each year, despite government efforts to curb such crimes.

India: Court rules against Muslim organization that sought ban of anti-terror film

That sounds like something that every Muslim individual and group that professes to reject jihad terrorism should support, but instead, a “leading Muslim organization,” Jamiatul Ulema-e-Maharashtra went to court to try to get its release stopped. This was even after they succeeded in getting the filmmakers to remove portions they found objectionable. They failed in court, but it is unlikely that we have heard the last of this story. The film opens tomorrow. Grab some popcorn.
“Court nod for anti-terrorism film release,” by Mohammed Wajihuddin for TNN, February 7:
MUMBAI: Granting relief to the makers of Ya Rab: Jihad Against Terrorism, the Bombay high court on Thursday did not stay its release on February 7.
Hearing a petition filed by a leading Muslim organization Jamiatul Ulema-e-Maharashtra, A division bench of Chief Justice Mohit Shah and Justice M S Sanklecha The HC said that the petitioner, Jamiatul Ulema-e-Maharashtra, can inform it at next hearing on February 13, if it feels that the film has objectionable scenes even after the disclaimer and fresh censor certificate obtained after deleting the objectionable portions.
“We had appealed against the film’s release on a wide perception as reflected in a section of Urdu press that it would create trouble and inflame communal passions. But the HC heeded to the disclaimer and claims made by the filmmaker that the objectionable scenes and dialogues have been removed. We will see if these changes have been made in the final prints. If my client is not satisfied, we will appeal to the court to stop its screening,” said advocate Afroz Siddiqui, who represented the petitioner, a Muslim organization. The film has become a matter of intense debate in the community ever since a group of community leaders watched it at a private screening last week. They had also petitioned political leaders and senior policemen seeking their intervention to stop its release before Jamiatul Ulema-e-Maharashtra moved court.

Saudi Muslim cleric suggests that baby girls wear hijabs to prevent rape

Although this Opposing Views story is new, actually Sheikh Abdullah al-Daoud made his statements in 2012. He said: “The prevalent custom among Muslims of the countries of East Asia is to make girls start wearing the hi-jab in the second year of their lives. This has motivated us to compete with them, and we will start our girls wearing the hi-jab even earlier….We do not want to see revealing and shameful clothing, especially when girls start to develop and fill out, and show signs of beauty, and so on. You find that she is in a state of exposure and nudity. I think we know that there are fatwas that forbid this, even if they have not yet reached the stage of puberty. Whenever the girl is an object of desire, the parents have the duty to cover her up with a hijack.”
His comments reflect the assumption that underlies the mandatory covering-up of women of any age: that if a man is tempted, it is entirely the woman’s fault, and her responsibility to end that temptation by removing it from sight.
“Saudi Cleric Suggests Baby Girls Wear Burqas to Prevent Rape,” by Lina Batarags for Opposing Views, February 3 (thanks to Pamela Geller):
A Saudi cleric has proposed this solution to molestation of young girls: they should be required to wear burqas.
While no law or practice in Islam requires that baby girls wear burqas, Sheik Abdulla Daoud suggested that covering the babies in burqas would keep them from being raped. Daoud made the controversial comment on TV last year, stating that babies were being molested in Saudi Arabia.
The video recently surfaced on social media, and elicited shocked and indignant response from fellow Saudis.

Boston: Muslim sues hospital after being fired for refusing un-Islamic flu shot

Wherever Islamic law and practice and American law and practice conflict, it is American law and practice that have to give way even if the public health is thereby endangered. “Boston Children’s Hospital: Until Every Child Is Well” except those exposed to the flu.
“Muslim who says she was fired for refusing flu shot sues Children’s Hospital Boston,” by Eric Convey for Boston Business Journal, February 4 (thanks to Pamela Geller):
A former Children’s Hospital Boston employee who said she was fired because her Islamic beliefs prohibited her from getting a mandatory flu shot sued the hospital today.
Leontine Robinson says in her complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Boston that her civil rights were violated because the hospital “intentionally discriminated against (her) due to her religious beliefs.” Some Muslims refuse flu shots because they contain a small amount of pork gelatin.

Muslim persecution of Christians rose sharply worldwide in 2013/2014 likely to be worse

Not to worry. The “Muslim-Christian dialogue” will solve this in a jiffy. “Rise of radical Islam made life worse for Christians in 2013, with more to come in 2014,” by Ashe Schow for the Washington Examiner, February 2
Persecution of Christians continues to worsen, fueled in part by the “Arab Spring,” which not only unleashed a wave of Islamist radicalism across the Arab world but also left Christians holding the blame for many of the uprisings that removed Arab leaders from power.
In 2013, 2,123 Christians were killed in persecution around the world, up from 1,201 in 2012.
In countries across the Middle East, North Africa and south Asia, Christians are murdered or imprisoned, their homes and businesses destroyed and their rights removed. This area represents just four percent of the world’s 2.2 billion Christians, but the treatment they receive is nothing short of horrific.

Muslim Brotherhood Leader Meets Obama in White House

What’s the big deal? A couple of allies, a couple of people of like mind meet it happens all the time. “,” by Adam Kredo for the Washington Free Beacon, February 5 (thanks to Pamela Geller):
A senior member of the Muslim Brotherhood was recently hosted at the White House for a meeting with President Barack Obama, prompting an outcry from critics of the global Islamist organization.
Anas Altikriti, a top British lobbyist for the Muslim Brotherhood whose father heads Iraq’s Muslim Brotherhood party, recently met with the president and Vice President Joe Biden as part of a delegation discussing problems in Iraq.
Altikriti, whose work has also been tied to Hamas, can be seen smiling in photos published by the White House as he stands next to Iraqi Parliament Speaker Usama al-Nujaifi, who is pictured shaking hands with President Obama in the White House’s Roosevelt Room. The meeting was first highlighted by the blog Harry’s Place.
The Obama administration has been criticized its outreach to the Muslim Brotherhood, the international Islamist organization whose members’ brief reign in Egypt was supported by the White House.
Nujaifi, Altikriti, and other members of the Iraqi delegation were in town late January to discuss al Qaeda’s growing presence in Iraq. Nujaifi himself was reported to have met twice with President Obama, though it remains unclear if Altikriti accompanied him on both occasions.

Late Tuesday night, it wasn’t known what caused the fire. But an FBI spokesman said the man’s burns were possibly from an incendiary device….

In addition to what police described as a Molotov cocktail.
