Karl Rove Turns Christie Accusations on Dem Gov: Were You Incompetent or Lying in 2008?

Fox News Channel contributor Karl Rove and former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland appeared on Fox News Sunday to debate the political implications of the scandals surrounding New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie. Rove turned the tables on Strickland during the debate over Christie’s aide’s alleged malfeasance and asked why Strickland was unaware of his own aides digging up information about Samuel “Joe the Plumber” Wurzelbacher in order to discredit him during the 2008 presidential campaign.

“Let’s go back to 2008 and Joe the Plumber,” Rove began. “Governor Strickland’s own appointee, as head of the employment commission, was found to have been accessing confidential government databases in order to find out confidential information, private information, about Joe the Plumber and leaking it to the press.”

“Now is Governor Strickland, to adopt his standard, either incompetent or lying,” Rove asked, “simply because it was his appointee who did these things?”

“It did not come from her?” Strickland responded.

“Who did it come from?” Rove asked.

“Karl, there was no confidential information about Joe the Plumber that was leaked to the press,” Strickland insisted.

“I’d go back and look at the public records if I were you,” Rove concluded.
