Ex-Dem Rep. Calls Former Colleague a ‘Bimbo,’ Hastily Backtracks

Ex-Democratic congressman Joe Baca is attempting a comeback representing California in the House, but he might want to think about his word choice first. In 2012, he lost his seat in Congress to Democrat Gloria Negrete McLeod, who announced her retirement from Congress today after just one term. The Hill reached out to Baca for comment, and in addition to saying he’s already running in one race and not switching to take back his old seat, he called McLeod a “bimbo.”

Baca unloaded on New York’s Steve Israel, the head of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, as well as Michael Bloomberg for getting involved in his race two years ago, and then really went after McLeod.

“Look at what we wound up with: Some bimbo who decided not to run again. … Here we go again now with another New Yorker trying to tell us who’s going to be the representative of the 31st. It’s up to the people to decide.”

A few hours after the post went up, Baca hastily called back to apologize for calling her a bimbo. He said, “I was just upset the district lost a representative in a short period of time. To me, that’s a disservice to the area. I do apologize for my poor choice of words.”
