Iran's Supremo: Americans are enemies of Islamic Revolution and of Iran, negotiations will not bring an end to this enmity

None of this will shake the conviction of Iran and the mainstream media that the Iranian mullahcracy is now “moderate,” and the Iranians know it. They know they can act with complete impunity, and nothing will stop Barack Obama and John Kerry from granting them concessions and helping them attain their nuclear goals.

“Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei: I Am Not Optimistic about Nuclear Talks; US Will Continue to Be an Enemy,” from MEMRI, February 17:

The following are excerpts from a speech delivered by Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, which aired on IRINN TV [Iran] on February 17, 2014:

Ali Khamenei: The message of the revolution is that we shall not surrender to bullying and extortion. We shall not surrender to hegemonic order. Hegemonic order means that a few powers control all the weapons and money, and they want to rule the world. The United States is the manifestation of today’s hegemonic order.

The Iranian nation has said during the revolution, in the ensuing events, in the Iran-Iraq War, and on the recent Revolution Day, that we shall not surrender to American bullying and extortion.

Crowd: Allah Akbar. Allah Akbar. Allah Akbar. Khamenei is the leader. Death to those who oppose the Rule of the Jurisprudent! Death to America! Death to England! Death to the hypocrites! Death to Israel!

Ali Khamenei: Certain people, who try to conceal the true face of America, should not do so. They should not conceal America’s ugliness, barbarism, and violence against our nation. They try to portray its government as friendly. They should not do so. It is futile.

The American president, with utter insolence, supported the people behind the [2009] strike in Tehran, and he supported them recently once again.

On March 21, 2013, in Mashhad, I declared that I have nothing to say [about the nuclear issue]. Some officials in the previous government, and some in the current government, believe that the nuclear issue can be resolved through negotiations with the US. I said: If you insist on negotiation with them on this specifically fine. But in the same speech, I said that I was not optimistic. I am not against it, but I am not optimistic.

Look, time after time, the Americans make stupid statements. One dishonorable American senator takes money from the Zionists in order to go to the Senate and curse the Iranian nation. He uses real curses, not just insults. He curses. Even their leaders have insulted Iran, but of course, our people punched them in the mouth on the recent Revolution Day.

The nuclear issue is merely a pretext for enmity. Even if the nuclear issue is resolved one day in line with US expectations although this is impossible they will seek something else instead. Note how the American spokespeople have talked about human rights, missiles, weapons, and so on. I am surprised at how the Americans are not ashamed to talk about human rights.

Iran will not violate its agreements and commitments, but the Americans are the enemies of the Islamic Revolution and of Iran. They are the enemies of the flag that you hold high, and these [negotiations] will not bring an end to this enmity.

Americans Can Unite Around Core Ideas, DeMint Says on Face the Nation

Although Democrats in Congress willingly gave President Obama “a blank check” to borrow more money last week and most Republicans didn’t, Americans are tired of such partisan fights in Washington and ready to rally around “core ideas,” Heritage Foundation President Jim DeMint said this morning on “Face the Nation.”
“America is not nearly as divided as it looks like they are in Washington,” DeMint said at one point.
Host Bob Schieffer of CBS News asked repeatedly whether conservative Republicans and their Tea Party allies would seek to “topple” House Speaker John Boehner following the successful votes in the House and Senate to raise the debt ceiling. DeMint consistently turned the focus back to ordinary Americans.
“I think a lot of Americans who believe in limited government, less spending and debt are concerned that under this president we’ve had more debt than any president in history,” DeMint said. “It’s very possible by the end of his term that he will have allowed more debt than all the presidents before him combined.”
DeMint said last week’s action to raise the debt limit was “a defining vote” in both houses.
“I think it showed that all the Democrats in Congress were completely willing to give the president a blank check to borrow whatever he wanted. Most of the Republicans weren’t. But the Republican leadership, Bob, has figured out either they give the president all that he wants or he’s going to close the government down and blame them.”
Schieffer tried to press DeMint, noting that the former South Carolina senator had founded the Senate Conservatives Campaign Fund and asking about political consequences for “establishment” Republicans. DeMint responded:
“At The Heritage Foundation, our job is to unite the country around a set of ideas. So we’re less involved with really trying to cram anything down the throats of congressmen and senators. We’re on a campaign now, Bob, to unite the country around some core ideas that will make our country stronger and life better and that’s our whole emphasis.”
Schieffer, who mentioned DeMint’s new book “Falling in Love with America Again” in introducing him, asked how satisfactory Republican leadership in Congress has been. The former senator’s reply:
“I will say that a lot of us as conservatives don’t feel like we are well represented in Washington right now, and I think a lot of Americans regardless of political labels feel the same way. I hear it all over the country, and I think that’s why you see a stirring around the country.
“Frankly, people are less interested in the label of Republican and Democrat and they are tired of that. But they will unite around some principles that will give us a stronger economy, a strong society, a strong America and those are the things we want to talk about. America is not nearly as divided as it looks like they are in Washington.”

CNN poll: More Americans still blame Bush for poor economy than blame Obama

I’ve written a good half-dozen posts on this topic over the years but I’ll never stop finding it interesting.
We’re getting there, guys. At the rate perceptions of blame are shifting, I think we’ve got an outside chance of Obama finally passing Bush by, say, summer 2016. Just in time.
Thirty-six percent of those questioned rate the current economic conditions as good. That’s up four percentage points from December and it is the highest level since January 2008, a year before Obama entered the White House. Sixty-four percent continue to say the economy is in poor shape…
Five years into Obama’s presidency, only a third of the public believes that Obama and the Democrats are primarily responsible for the country’s current economic problems.
More Americans continue to blame former President Bush and the Republicans. But the number who say the GOP is more responsible – now at 44% – has dipped below the 50% mark for the first time since Bush left the White House. Fourteen percent blame both parties equally
The last media outlet to poll this was, I believe, ABC/WaPo, which posed the question in December. Their result: Fifty percent blamed Bush versus 38 percent who blamed Obama, virtually the same margin as in the new CNN numbers. What’s significant about CNN, though, is the movement in Dubya’s column. The big takeaway from ABC/WaPo was that, no matter what’s happening in America politically or economically, the blame numbers almost never change. Remember?
