Russian-Ukrainian border likely to be closed

Due to "support troops," which, as the new Ukrainian authorities believe, travel from the Russian Federation, the Russian-Ukrainian border can be closed.

The question to either block the border between Ukraine and Russia or impose restrictions for crossing it was raised by Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Anatoly Yarema.

According to him, the people for pro-Russian meetings arrive from the Russian Federation. Residents of the Belgorod region of Russia took part in the beating of Euromaidan activists in the city of Kharkov, Yarema said.


Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin stated that the new Ukrainian government is focused exclusively on the nationalist vector, while Russia wants to avoid both war actions and violation of sovereignty of a foreign state.

Dissenters: Gov't promotes dialogue but avoids commitment

Opposition alliance Unified Democratic Panel (MUD) proposed some terms for holding talks: a thorough agenda, a mutually agreed methodology, and the good offices of designated officials, either national or international".

Venezuelan opposition umbrella group Unified Democratic Panel (MUD) complained in a statement that the Venezuelan government has not sent any signals of being interested in promoting true dialogue in the country.

"The government shows itself as the promoter of dialogue without committing itself to anything," said the MUD. They questioned the fact that authorities are seeking to send opposition leader Carlos Vecchio to prison even though officers of the National Bolivarian Intelligence Service (Sebin) are allegedly involved in the events of February 12.

"We have insisted on saying that respect is essential for holding talks, but this must be done with a serious, firm and respectful approach to meet the minimum requirements for trust," Aveledo remarked.

"We ratify our willingness to hold dialogue and propose establishing real bases for its achievement with a thorough agenda, a mutually agreed methodology, and the good offices of designated officials, either national or international."

Mayor reports 15 people injured during demonstration in Caracas

The Bolivarian National Guard used tear gas against demonstrators.

As many as 15 people were injured during a demonstration held on Thursday in southeast Caracas, as reported by Mayor of Baruta municipality Gerardo Blyde.


The event occurred when demonstrators tried to take the highway in east Caracas, but police stopped them using tear gas. Sources reported that the students suffered suffocation and lacerations.

FM rules out installation of Russian military bases in Venezuela

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Elías Jaua's remarks came when questioned about a statement issued by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Choigu, who told journalists this week that Moscow looked forward to widening its military presence abroad.

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Elías Jaua ruled out on Friday the possibility of installing Russian military bases in Venezuela.

"Under the Constitution, we cannot establish foreign military bases in our country," said Jaua in a press conference in Brazil.

His reply came when questioned about a statement issued by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Choigu, who told journalists this week that Moscow was willing to widen its international military presence with new bases and equipment for troops, according to Russian agency Ria Novosti, AFP reported.


"Conversations are in progress and we are about to sign the relevant instruments," commented Choigu, as Ria Novosti explained.

Students will remain in the streets despite military repression

"There is mourning here, instead of carnival!" cried out on Thursday a crowd attending a rally convened by the student movement. However, it was not a cry consistent with the time; also, the promise to join students was voiced.

"No carnival for anybody here; we will continue in the streets. On Sunday, we will walk up to Brión square (eastern Caracas)," exclaimed Juan Requesens, the president of the Federation of Student Councils, Central University of Venezuela (UCV). Earlier, he had said once again that students will keep up demonstrating as long as all students are released and justice is administered.

Requesens sent President Nicolás Maduro a message: "You have our numbers. Dialogue means facts; release our classmates."

Students to demonstrate in Venezuela on March 2nd

Referring to the National Peace Conference hosted by the Venezuelan government and held on Wednesday evening, the students said such dialogue should be held with the people in the streets.

A mass demonstration led by students and citizens took place on Thursday in east Caracas to reject violence, student detentions and torture, and shortage in Venezuela.
Student leader Juan Requesens convened a rally next Sunday, in different areas of Caracas.


Referring to the National Peace Conference hosted by the Venezuelan government and held on Wednesday evening, the students said such dialogue should be held with the people in the streets and oriented to solve the problems of the country, with the government listening to its people.
